If Iowa can win their next 2 games they will advance to the Sweet 16 (Super Regional). There are 8 Super Regional sites where the 2 teams in each regional play a best 2 of 3; the 8 winners advance to the College World Series in Omaha, NE.

Yesterday, of course, ended a 43 year drought when Iowa won its first NCAA Tournament baseball game since 1972 (the Nixon administration!)

Heller has done a heller of a job in just his 2nd year on the job.

The win over Oregon gives Iowa 40 victories for the first time since 1985, improving the Hawkeyes' record to 40-16.

A replay of Iowa/Oregon can be seen here: http://espn.go.com/watchespn/player/_/id/2584746/ If you want to skip around, Iowa scored in the 2nd, 3rd and 5th innings; the 9th started with a rain delay but was worth watching as well. With the rain delay, the game was over 4 hours long!

GO HAWKS!!!

Top 8 teams get to host. We'll almost assuredly be on the road if we win the regional.

By winning the regional Iowa would be replacing a top 8 seed. Depending on what happens in the Stillwater Regional Iowa could end up hosting. Provided they submitted a bid for the Super when they submitted a bid to host the regional.

Iowa is clearly in the control position in this region. One game today. Win and repeat tomorrow. One game each day. Good rest for the team. Light use of the pen yesterday.

Hopefully the weather allows the regional to be played!!!

Weather is great here. Overcast and no rain anywhere in the forecast.

I think the key will be for Canisius to get to Missouri State's bullpen in this first game. If MSU gets a complete game (not unlikely) and has their co-ace going against Iowa, it would be a tough challenge.

If we advance, how does the best of three work in super regionals? Neutral site?

there are 8 national seeds; MO State is one of them; if a national seed advances to the Sweet 16, they host; not sure what the criteria is after that

From an article I read:

Pac-12 champion UCLA (42-14) edged out Southeastern Conference regular-season champion LSU (48-10) for the No. 1 national seed. The other six national seeds, in order, are: Louisville, Florida, Miami, Illinois, TCU and Missouri State.

The tournament opens Friday with 16 four-team, double-elimination regionals. Those 16 winners advance to best-of-three super regionals next week; those 8 winners advance to the College World Series in Omaha.

National seeds that win their regionals play at home in super regionals. Since the NCAA went to its current tournament format in 1999, only one No. 1 national seed — Miami in 1999 — has won the championship.

And the MO state/Canasius winner has to play a double header today where Iowa got a whole day of rest

We're matched up with the Stillwater regional so we'd be against someone from there. Since Missouri State would be eliminated, we'd go to Okie State if they emerge. If Arkansas gets out, we'd have to bid on the host. If St. John's gets out, we'd host.

Per Wikipedia:
Super Regionals are played at eight locations throughout the country and consist of the 16 surviving teams, matched up by predetermined regional pairings. National seeds cannot meet each other in the super regional and are guaranteed to host. If the national seed in the bracket is eliminated in the regional stage, the super regional will be played at the higher seeded team's field. If the two seeds are the same, the Super Regional will be bid upon by the two competing teams. The two teams play a best-of-three series to determine who moves on to the College World Series.

Iowa will in even better shape if they win today and get to wait for team to come back through.

yeah, nothing like being in the winners bracket, waiting for the winner of the losers bracket

then all you have to do is win one; if you lose, you get one more chance to advance to the Sweet 16

Well we are only 1-0 in the regional...so A LOT of baseball left...A LOT. However, IF Iowa were to advance to super regionals, 100% guarantee they'd be on the road unless it's St.Johns (which I doubt). Iowa would have to travel to Okie State or Arkansas.

From 6pm-9pm, ESPN2 has bases loaded on and then it's on ESPNU from 9pm-10pm. It is whiparound coverage from the regional sites. They wont show the whole game, however with Iowa being such a late start. We may get to see quite a bit of it between the two channels at that time of night.

Espn 3 carries entire game

IF Iowa wins their next 4 games, that are in the College World Series (Elite 8)

I know, its a big IF, but interesting, nonetheless =)

Hopefully Hickman is on tonight. Last 2 outings he was working mid to upper 80'S and only touching 90'S occasionally. Been replaced early several times recently.

This is a guy that can work at 91-94 and touches 96.

His FB is straight as a string too.

Hope he let's it go tonight.

Good grief Hickman needs to work ahead. He's already at 60 pitches and not even through 3
