Who is in charge of this stuff and why do we have to go through the process if we already knew we wanted Goetz? What a waste of money.

Academia is the least efficient part of the economy.

That said, which is worse: paying for $125 for AD search or losing $2million + lawyer costs in lawsuit because your AD was too stupid to document his reasons for firing two lesbian coaches or losing $4million + lawyer cost in lawsuit because your football head coach didn't get Woke soon enough, or paying $5+ million in salary over 9 years to the coach's son to develop an offense that was worst offense in P5 over the past 3 years?

It doesn't hurt to make sure there are no other options and Im sure Athletics paid for it. It's less than one football assistant coach and probably worth it.

Why wouldn't you cast a wide net? We had a good candidate inhouse, but you never know who else might be interested. And moreover, as others have mentioned, they are required to do so.

So there is a requirement that $125K be spent? It's not a big issue relative to other overspending, it isn't a non issue.
There's a requirement that a search and an interview process happen, which costs money. It's the same as any other government or public entity, except this likely came from athletic funds which isn't taxpayer money.

And to add, the folks that get paid to do national searches are not cheap. At least not the good ones. It's wise to spend the money up front.

Can you imagine the talk if we DIDN'T do this?

C'mon, let's think for just 20 seconds.
That was my contribution to the last thread on this subject. The fake outrage from those who don't completely support BG would have been out-of-control if she were just given the position without a proper hiring process.

Both are pretty stupid.

It’s dumb that a university is forced to spend that money when they already know they wanted to hire Beth.

Is pretty stupid that Barta was allowed to do such a terrible job that cost the university millions. What’s even dumber is that he didn’t lose his job right then and there.

This type of stuff is considered “peanuts” yet they can’t pay employees a reasonable wage, and don’t give me the “it’s the benefits” bs
People can’t pay bills with benefits

Gary brought in a lot of money. Need to look at both sides of that deal.

Boom goes the dynamite

Because the minute we don't and there is an issue, then it really blows up. Do it by the book. I get what you are saying but they really should go through all the proper hoops.

Besides being required, not a total waste even if Goetz was the clear favorite. The search firm often gets valuable feedback regarding the program and who is interested or may be interested, and who would not be/never be interested.

A good database of valuable info is developed which can be the foundation of the next AD search if Goetz decides to take a new job in a couple of years or (god forbid) drops dead this summer.

total waste of money. should've just hired brian ferentz as AD and got two birds with one stone. better football offense and better AD and saved 125K

:)
