TV news storm chasers question

I can understand the need for them years ago before all the technology that gives amazing storm info now. But why send people out into dangerous conditions so the station can get some footage to tell their viewers how dangerous it is and for many to seek shelter? I wouldn't want my loved one to be sent out in these conditions and risk their lives to show me that it is dangerous out here.
