.....hellloooo! Why what have we here?! Is this some sort of new-fangled free-for-all, no-holds-barred, no-topic-off-limits interpersonal messaging forum?

Well whatever it is, it certainly seems like an interesting and super-friendly place. Ol' Doodle wonders what exactly goes on around here. Hopefully there's not too much in the way of politics or religion talk. That stuff can lead to bickering and discord and could potentially turn a good (free) board bad (premium)......or so Doodle has been told....by a friend...who knew a guy.....who had a buddy.....who saw it happen.....this one time. But he's admittedly is a bit of a pre-Madonna.

Holy crap 'ol Doodle is back! Thoughts on the Pirates this year?
Starting pitching has been all over the place (except Cole of course). Melancon is just not a true closer IDHO, so he's always going to terrify Ol' Doodle every time he takes the mound to close out a game.

Hitting has been sub-par overall, with only one regular player batting above .300. Marte's average may not be up there, but his power certainly seems to have improved with 6 HR to lead the club. Just needs to get the strikeouts down so he's not such an all-or-nothing type hitter. Hurdle's player moves and lineup changes are a bit baffling at times, as usual.....and Cutch getting totally healthy would be a nice boost. He's still one of the best players in the league even at about 80%. Cervelli has acquitted himself reasonably well in place of Martin, but he is DEAD LAST in stolen bases allowed by a catcher, which is not something the Pirates can afford with our typically limited offensive production. And of course, you still worry about what was lost beyond the box score when Martin left, such as the leadership angle and managing a relatively young pitching staff and stuff like that.

Really, it's been the solid defense (other than Cervelli's utter inability to throw out base-stealers) that has really helped keep them in the black record-wise. Through all the negatives of the first part of the year, they're still over .500 and in the thick of the race, so Doodle will take his usual wait-and-see approach.

Both Martin and Cervelli played for the Yankees before
putting on the Pirate uniform. What was expendable
for the Yankees became starters for the Pirates. Of
course, the Pirates beat the Yankees in the 1960
World Series when Bill Mazorski hit a game winner.

In years past you could have made a damn All Star team out of former Pirates. Fortunately, now the Bucs have a few All Stars on their own roster.....and hopefully ones who will stick around for a while!
Can you imagine? Outfield would be strong, rotation would be strong. Infield? Relief? You put all those guys on the same team though, they wouldn't need much.

Barry was in left in Pitt, right?
