Disturbing Trend in Iowa's Recruiting Class

Didn't Iowa also lose Anthony Nelson's brother? Didn't the Hawks also lose Oliver Martin? etc Since the allegations of disparate treatment came to light ... the Hawks have lost folks of more than a single ethnic/racial background. However, with that said ... it likely IS self-evident that...

RB depth chart for next year

I agree. I think that Nebraska landed a good transfer in Stepp. Similarly, I'd like to see the Hawks pay Michigan back a little ... and take Charbonnet off their hands.

Disturbing Trend in Iowa's Recruiting Class

IowasLaw (presumably the former poster iowalawschool) has a shtick that always involves undermining the program. I believe that the poster is actually a Northwestern fan, as opposed to an Iowa fan. Anyhow, just wanted you to be aware about what flavors you choose to feed the troll.

Disturbing Trend in Iowa's Recruiting Class

Also, to remark upon a geographic trend for the '21 recruiting class is beyond foolish ... because, for those who actually track recruiting ... the '21 in-state class was slated to be VERY strong. Thus, it was obvious that the Hawks would be recruiting in-state guys really actively.

Disturbing Trend in Iowa's Recruiting Class

Some of this stuff comes in ebbs and flows. There was a period of time around 2006 and 2007 where Iowa was battling with some perception issues because of how many off-field issues our players were having. The aftermath of that led to some pretty shoddy recruiting classes in '08 and '09...

    Hankins coming back

That's only partially true. Gervase got replaced ... only to work his way back onto the field. However, your point is well made ... ultimately, you really do have to be ready when your number is called. I think that Brents still could have developed into a high-level contributor for the Hawks...

    Hankins coming back

I wonder if this played a role in Brents stepping away. Dealing with the realization that that Hankins may have been speculating about sticking around. As for Xavior Williams ... I would imagine that he'll still play a ton. Given the teams we play ... we'll likely go nickel and dime looks on...

Coaching greatness vs. talent on the field

Much of success that Alabama enjoys is there because of the structure and culture that Saban has put in place. Many "fans" attribute too much credit to schemes. Yet others attribute too much credit to "recruiting stars." Saban is supremely good at managing the personnel, instituting a culture...

    OT: Nebraska Star Entering Portal?

What I've seen so far is that Frost had sold Robinson and his dad on him getting big production out of the slot. However, instead, Frost put him in situations where he had to endure a lot of punishment (probably read that as running between the tackles). Rumor has it that he was tempted to...

Cedrick Lattimore: "The kid has played really, really well in his first NFL game."

Congrats to Ced ... hopefully an opportunity he can build from.

Will the QB position be up for grabs ?

A few fumbles and a lot of uncharacteristic penalties are largely what cost us the Purdue game. It was hardly on Petras alone. Petras only really cost us the Northwestern game.

    Campbell speaking with Jets

Sorry Hawk fans ... but I don't see Campbell leaving. Too much job security at Ames. Not unlike Ferentz and the NFL overtures ... this is about leverage. It helps him to project his assistants, give him more power, and allow him to ultimately leverage that for better contracts for himself and...

Will the QB position be up for grabs ?

I don't disagree whatsoever - however, I feel it important to be intellectually honest and concede to some of the valid points that RomanHawk has made. I feel no need to be dogmatic.

Will the QB position be up for grabs ?

I think that your reasoning concerning Iowa under-performing relative to our representation in the NFL sits on thin ice. It's certainly true that Iowa's starters tend to perform at a very high level. However, compared to more elite programs ... the drop-off from 1st string to 2nd string can be...

Will the QB position be up for grabs ?

Saban has won the majority of his national championships with pro-style Os ... but even he's been changing his tune about the nature of offensive football in the college game. He's evolved because ... just as you indicated ... by featuring a sexier O, it allows you to recruit sexier players on O.

Heflin done at Iowa, focusing on NFL draft.

Will the QB position be up for grabs ?

Sorry ... I had only glossed over this post before. To frame things first ... I believe that Tate was a great Hawkeye. Furthermore, were it not for an unholy number of drops in '05 ... I believe that Tate's completion percentage should have been absurdly high (Solomon was talented ... but...

    *****Offical 2022 Recruiting Thread*****

I can see that. Ike Boettger also kinda fit that mold too (as did Robert Gallery and Riley Reiff). Given the body type ... he's currently long and lean. However, with development ... that athletic build, combined with a disposition that enjoys the violence and contact involved in blocking...

Heflin done at Iowa, focusing on NFL draft.

I was originally feeling that way too ... especially since I think that Heflin would have been able to be really productive in '21. However, with that said ... I think that the interior can at least be solid. I expect the DL to resemble something like: RDE: VanValkenburg, Black LDE...
