Totally agree. Seemed like a changing of the guard at many weights. Burroughs, Taylor, Cox, Gilman; Gray on the women's side. Dake would appear to be the outlier. 33 years old and still the boss at his weight.
Least of his many talents is that he's the best wrestling broadcaster I've heard. His call of Steveson winning gold was classic. "Fake snap, fake snap, fake snap, go get it, go get it, go get it. There you go."
Many positives -- great school, beautiful campus, ability to grey shirt, nice standalone wrestling facility, large endowment. But their academic admission standards must put them out of the running for a bunch of otherwise talented high school wrestlers, no?
Oh Spooner. You just can't help yourself. But since you mentioned it, I don't think TnT will exploit the portal to the fullest extent possible, b/c it's an indictment of their ability to recruit and develop talent.
They have four or five weights to attend to if they want to seriously challenge and make up lost ground with PSU. That's well beyond anything they've done in the past. Two portal transfers to make up for Woods and Franek graduating is running in place.
You're talking the past. I'm talking the future. Get the difference? I'm looking at 133, 141, 149, and 157, and I'm seeing no one likely to AA. You seem to not be aware of this?
Don't wait for them to fall in your lap. Go get them. It's the only short-term solution. Next year will be more of the same otherwise. Other coaches will be doing it.
Hindsight's 20-20, but with Rocco in the finals, Star and Griffith battling injuries, and Mekhi a shell of his former self, makes you wish Gabe hadn't taken a red-shirt. He could have gone deep in this tourney.
The NCAA needs to do something. There's no momentum to the matches. Prime time TV and there's more standing around than wrestling. At least Jordan and Daniel are entertaining.
