2023 NCAA Championships Session I Thread

Overall thoughts from round 1: It's bittersweet that this tournament is the last time we'll ever see Spencer in the black & gold. Savor it, fellas... Teske has skill but strikes me as one of those guys who always seems to find a way to lose. That said, his path on the backside to AA isn't the...

    Future Lineups

With more recruits/transfers coming in, I like to speculate about what our future lineups will look like. Thoughts welcome... Some notes: I think redshirting DeSanto in 20-21 is the best way to go to maximize usage of DeSanto/Teasdale/Murin. I know some people think Teasdale will wind up at...

    Warner was gassed

I don't mean to pile on, and Warner may come back strong on the backside and prove me wrong, but I just haven't been impressed with Warner since he came to Iowa. Aside from inexplicably having Miklus' number, he has no signature wins to speak of and doesn't seem to be very mentally tough.

    Young or Glosser?

Since we've got a "Bowman or Shaw?" thread, how about this one? I think Young is probably more talented, but he just doesn't wrestle. It's unbearable watching him stand around for 7 minutes and do nothing. Glosser may not have as much talent, but looks like a goer. He went after Deakin and...

    Predictions for Minne Dual

125 - #2 Spencer Lee MD #7 Sean Russell Lee could tech or pin, but given the version of him we've seen lately, it's hard to predict more than a major. IOWA 4-0 133 - #8 Ethan Lizak DEC #10 Austin DeSanto With the exception of his win over Micic at Vegas last year (when Micic was injured), has...

    Midlands 2018

I completely agree. Most of the teams that have left over the years left to get away from Iowa. No need to chase after them. Midlands is still an extremely tough tournament and great midseason test for our guys. If other teams want to challenge Iowa, they know where we'll be end of December...

    Midlands 2018

Assuming Illinois will be there, here's the ranked wrestlers at each weight per Flo's pre-season rankings. 125 #1 Spencer Lee – Iowa #3 Sebastian Rivera – Northwestern #4 Ronnie Bresser – Oregon State #7 Ryan Millhof – Arizona State #11 Travis Piotrowski – Illinois #17 Michael McGhee – Old...

    Starting Line Up this Year

Remember Murin was also a true freshman last year. Most every true freshman is going to make mistakes and take some lumps as they acclimate to D1 wrestling. Remember Marinelli getting stuck by Anthony Valencia at Midlands his freshman year? Or Warner losing to Woodley? But despite his...

    Warner's early season schedule

Warner is going to have his hands full right out of the gate this season... Nov. 9 – Kyle Conel (Kent State) – Last year’s biggest surprise of the NCAA Tournament, placing 3rd and beating Kolin Moore twice Nov. 16 – Patrick Brucki (Princeton) – NCAA Qualifier who beat Warner at Midlands and...

Lineup projections going forward... Part II

Thanks for starting another lineup thread. The one I started got... weird. I'm surprised there hasn't been more speculation as to how Lee will use his eligibility going forward. For those who know, answer me this - If Lee uses an Olympic RS in 2020, does that count as his regular redshirt...

    Lineup projections going forward...

So what is everybody's thoughts on politics and religion? This is an important place to talk about that stuff. Also, while we're at it, what's a dream that you had recently that seemed so real and what do you think it means?!?! We're all dying to know...:rolleyes::rolleyes:

    Lineup projections going forward...

With the Hawkeyes landing more big recruits, the lineup appears to be coming into focus for the upcoming years. Here's my crack at it... 2019 125 - Lee (SO) 133 - DeSanto (SO) 141 - Murin (FR) 149 - Lugo (JR) 157 - Young (SO) 165 - Marinelli (SO) 174 - Kemerer (JR) 184 - Wilcke (JR) 197 -...

    Bono to Wisconsin

Doubt it. Ramos talked a lot of trash on his way out. Plus, do we really need another lightweight coach with TnT in the room?

    Punt 133

Exactly. Save the scholly money for elite high schoolers, don't go blowing it on JUCO guys that are basically going to be for us what Keener was to PSU.

    Punt 133

So there seem to be rumors flying about Iowa looking to get a JUCO transfer at 133 or something for next year. My thought is that if it's going to be somebody that's going to require ANY scholarship money, don't do it. Next year the top 8 at 133 are going to look something like... 1. Seth...

Pat Downey will not wrestle for Iowa

    Good riddance...

    Article on Sorensen

I don't think he always does. I think he's the type of guy who tends to wrestle to the level of his competition, which can just be darn frustrating to watch as a fan when you know he can do so much more. You want to tell me the same guy that came within an inch of beating last year's Hodge...
