I may just be an old out-of-touch white guy…

Not take you're dog to the airport and find a friend/sitter or place to board? CSB - I was boarding a flight out of Denver a few years ago and a lady was trying to get her cat from the stroller carrier to a carry on and it got loose in the walkway bridge. Hilarious seeing her try to get her...

    Dying a billionaire

That's Munger's view more than Buffett I think. Even at the 2023 annual meeting they discussed this. Buffett thinks it would be possible but not Munger.

    Dying a billionaire

Can you share this quote? I'm familiar with him saying everyone else should invest in index funds but can't recall him saying he would invest himself... genuinely curious to read the context of this. Thanks!

I would add it was definitely passion but also the desire for independence and ability to do whatever they chose with their time. The both of them were absolute geniuses who their time reading and thinking deeply on numerous subjects.

    Private school cost

I'm paying that right now for 1 kid (2 yrs old currently) and with another on the way I'll be doubling my $2k per month I'm currently paying. Absolutely insane BUT we shopped around a fair bit and this was pretty much middle of the road for our area. Daycare and the curriculums they try to...

Wow. 20 extended families use MOST of the Colorado river water in the CA Imperial Valley....

I think one poster referenced this but a lot of this hay is exported to Middle eastern countries to support their livestock because they can't grow the crops there. Crazy world!

Money Market Funds - Treasury Only

I’m parking cash in fzdxx that I’ll use to buy a small business hopefully in the next 12 mo. It has a 7 day yield of 5.19% (which should be net of expense ratio)… I looked around for others but thought this was a pretty good option.

    Financial question

the op really needs to clarify where they’re at financially and if this $200k will be needed anytime soon <3-5 yrs. If there’s no pressing cash flow need and the money is not needed in the short term then I would throw it in equities or a balanced portfolio that meets your risk tolerance...

    Financial question

That’s assuming 5% returns for 10 yrs at an equivalent risk profile (would need to be guaranteed since you know what the interest rate will be on your loan). Nobody knows the answer to this but the probability of this being true would be low imho.

    **** Official Israel War thread****

Following along but could have this wrong… I thought there was speculation that they were actually heading towards a us navy ship but reported as Israel to try and deescalate?

The South Dakota Public Utilities Commission denied the Navigator project permit application.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see them combine projects into one single entity… crazy but don’t see why it couldn’t happen. I know they were pursuing to different models so they’d probably have to negotiate new deals with the plants. Some plants don’t appreciate summit so we’ll see…

Boomers in their 30s vs Millenials

If I'm doing my math right that's only a 4.7% annual increase per year... a quick google search says that inflation has average 2.5% since 1994.

Boomers in their 30s vs Millenials

Just saw this today: Millennials are on track to surpass their elders in one key source of financial security: retirement savings. While the generation born in the 1980s and 1990s has lagged behind prior generations when it comes to homeownership and earnings, new data suggests they are...

Skimming through this... pg 29 says that a golf course had an appraised value of $16mm but in the statement of financial condition the value was stated as $56.6mm!

    California Travel Question

My in laws recently moved to Morro Bay. I like the town but have only visited twice (once in summer and once in Jan) - somewhat decent sized but not a ton of traffic. Can't say I'd want to visit in the winter based on my visit in January. Carpinteria would be something I'd want to explore more...

    Denver this weekend

In what part of town are you staying? I’m not sure when the doors open but if you get to the ballpark early enough beers (I think just the rooftop section) are pretty heavily discounted.

    Best War Movies Per Conflict

Skimmed through I'd throw Generation Kill out there and vote for "We Were Soldiers" in the Vietnam category. Happened to watch that in theaters with my dad and he broke down crying during one of the scenes - one of three times I can recall him crying...
