‘I Feel Sorry for Americans’: A Baffled World Watches the U.S.

People but this shit that you sell? What a laughable comment.

So you would just be walking down the street in let's say Hong Kong or Shang Hai and the people there would start dancing and acting excited because they thought you were from the US?

Good lord. Were they selling things when you got off your tour bus? If so I can clue you I. On why they were acting that way.

By the way I don't believe you. Because I have actually travelled all over the world and what you just described doesn't happen. Ever.
Are you hot? Trust me, it happens to hot people all the time.

So if Trump get re-elected can we count on the liberals to leave?

if he gets fairly reelected, I will hate it, but I’m not going anywhere.

if he finds someway to thwart democracy and stay in power, though, my wife and I have already discussed. We will start by joining many of the protests that will undoubtedly happen. If that does not work, we are going to leave the country. Thankfully, we are in a position where that would not be too difficult for us to make happen.

I have never seen someone wear the badge of denial as proudly as the Republicans in this thread.

Good for them. What is your point? That it is their words and because they live in Cyprus that somehow carries some sort of weight?

You are aware that this thread is about how the world currently sees America, right?

I hope you’re not referring to military deployments, very different.

If not, I’ll concede you have more experience. But I’ve been out of the country more than most for both work and pleasure. And much of it during Obama and Trump...and it’s obvious where I’ve been that Trump has hurt our global image.

Although I did live in Europe for a bit when I was in the army I also lived there when I was a child and wasnt attached to the military.

Lived in London for work and Hong Kong as well. My brother lived in Beijing for work. A different brother lived in Hong Kong for work and Mumbai.

I have been a lot of places. Americans are not despised in most places but there are plenty of people that don't like us.

The truth is that people are just people though and for the most part they think about the United States about as much as people in the US think about them. Rarely and usually inaccurately. They are just people living their lives and thinking about work and dating or marriage or kids. Just like everyone else

If they want to send us aid is there a mailing address database for checks?

I will take cash, pity don't feed the bulldog.

People honestly spend energy on this type of crap? Lol, I suggest going for a walk and finding some friends.

Searching for something to be outraged about everyday must be exhausting.
Says the guy who was so outraged because future doctors and dentists may have taken online courses during the pandemic.

When I would travel in other countries around the world when Obama was president, it was crazy how many people from little kids to adults with start chanting Obama and dancing and acting excited when they found out (or guessed) I was from the US.

Let’s just say under Trump, people are less enthusiastic about him and Americans.

I realize this comment has already been discussed but I’ll say that I’ve done quite a bit of travel (and to some slightly remote places) and I’ve never once noticed much of a reaction to me that relates to US politics. The one exception was GWB’s Iraq war where I felt Americans in general weren’t as popular as I once imagined.

Is thus truly what’s happening? Link?

Where the frack did you Travel? I've been to South Korea, Japan, Qatar, Saudi, Bahrain, Mexico & Germany since 2005 and never experienced anything like you're describing.

Sounds like Jerry Bruckheimer film.

we live in a pan-media world, i.e, the media-for-hire that trashes america at home is the very same media that operates in rest of the world (barring china). this is something to account for when forming one's own opinions.

I was living in Europe when I was a teenager and looked the part. Once had an adult threaten to knife me when he found out I was an American. I was fast though and laughed at him while I ran away.

I had some old Germans that served on the other side thank me for being an American once but that had zero to do with who was president and more to do with things people did before I was born.

Have been in the middle east and while it was obvious I didn't fit the only people that paid any attention really were the hookers riding in the elevator at the hotel. They were very interested in whether I would come buy them a drink and I was very interested in not doing that. They knew I was American but it is their business to figure those types of things out.

Have traveled through Asia and had Chinese people insist on taking my picture with their kids. I think I was the only white person they had ever been around and I doubt very much they knew or cared I was American.

Have been in some rough neighborhoods I didn't mean to wander through in Europe and Asia and was just fine. Might have been lucky but there wasnt anyone looking to hate an american on the corner. Maybe rob me but like I said I got lucky and that didn't happen.

This idea there are vast groups of people that hate or pity Americans is invented nonsense. Some guy coming home from work overseas is worried about trump? People really believe that? There is a good chance they don't even remember his name. It isn't a part of their daily lives anymore than they are a part of our daily lives.

Lol about the Chinese asking to get their picture taken with you. Had the same thing happen when we were over there. A bunch of high school aged kids asked to get their pic with me at the forbidden city. Had some Middle Ages bodega workers ask in Tianjin.
there wasn’t dancing in the street as someone mentioned above but a lot of amusing waves from the Chinese while out on the street.

Beijing is an amazing city and you can tell which people just arrived from the countryside. Friendly people.

Some advice for those that want to explore the city on your own a bit. Get your hotel concierge to write out the names of places you want to go as well as the name of your hotel I. Chinese characters. That way you can grab a taxi from anywhere and be able to communicate where you want to go.

It just amazes me that anyone can look around at this country today and say to themselves, "You know, THIS is how America should be!" What part of this is good? What part of this is better than it was 5 years ago?
Everything, we got rid of comrade Barry

Interesting stories. Thanks.

And as we’ve pointed out in every thread you piss and moan about (which is too many to count), none of these hands on experiences would go away. They’re only taking their general ed courses online, so if my doctor took rhetoric online, I couldn’t care less.

Have lived overseas both in Europe and in Asia. How about you?

You have zero idea what you are talking about

Yes he does. You've made your world small by self imposed ignorance. How would you know if world sentiment was against the U.S.? Seriously, how would you know? What medium would tell you?

By your posts and arguments, I'll wager you don't have access to information that 70% of the country has.
