Because the country has someone who wants to be a real leader and not a puppet. Obama was dragged around, with his smooth talking style and charisma, and pretty just enacted policies that would make Cheney very happy. Or wait, DID make Cheney very happy. More war, more spying, more money for Wall Street, record numbers in deportations, etc.
It all happened under Obama's watch.
In other words, trump is destroying all the institutions of DC that are being run by unappointed Democrats. Virtually every employee of the Federal government is a democrat. They want all these stupid institutions to GROW. I want Trump to downsize them, if not eliminate most of them. What we are going to find out is that most of the government can go away, and most people will not even notice they are gone.
Yes, I know that libs are going to start screaming about the sky is falling, but other than dems, who cares. Look at most of the departments, right off the bat they have Secretaries, then they have assistant secretaries, then they have under secretaries. Looks to me like some cleaning out of these departments is in order, what a complete waste of resources.
This is how you interpreted the history professor's answers? Were you reading a different interview, because that was not the point of the professor. I'm not sure where you pulled your conclusions from. The majority of the interview was explaining the history and danger of authoritarian leadership.

This is the first post I have seen acknowledging that not all Trump supporters are racist.
The only half of his supporters are deplorables comment is a 50% improvement - this is real progress.

Ha the only half bit was a joke in reference to Hillary's comments. I don't know how I would go about making my own guess, but it's much less than 50%, problem is they're often the loudest. Same goes for the D's, the left, liberals, whatever, not all are out blocking roads and destroying property.

It's entirely possible, that Trump just legitimately wants to prevent a terrorist attack and this is how a dumbshit goes about it, the rest be damned. Obama pretended not to know about NSA activities which is just as bad because one way or another the courts will decide, in public, what measures Trump can take.
His patriotism act appeals to people that don't likely represent his ideals, just like a few blacks thought Obama was gonna make their lives better by assignment. I'm not too concerned what racists think about Trump. As far as Trump is concerned, I'm black too because I ain't rich.

This...it appears that many Americans decided to give the finger to the establishment and can you really blame them? Lots of these voters, who went Obama, felt betrayed if they were blue collar workers as the democrat party had seemed to totally give up on these people as their guy, Bernie, was effed hard by the establishment arm of the DNC.

I hate to admit it but this could happen. They have already laid all the requisite ground work with our domestic surveillance programs, it's just a matter of sending the men out for people at this point. It may already be to late if this is the direction we're heading.

Which is why I find it incredibly shortsighted that some refuse to even admit this is happening. Trump has already tried banning Muslims, while giving a pass to Christians. He's threatened to jail Hillary and has fired people for opposing him. Hes said only those who have his idea of American values should be allowed in.
Worse, Trump already owns two branches of the government. And the courts will only be able to oppose him for so long. He and he alone has the power to nominate judges. Since the Republicans have shown no spine, he can probably get whatever crackpots he wants in there. Hes already done this with his cabinet picks. And even if that doesnt work, he can always make recess appointments. Either way he can totally alter the courts to his liking.
Combine all this together and you have the groundwork for a complete government takeover.

I admit, Trump probably wont be able to overturn the two term rule. But he could declare Martial Law, say its necessary for the safety of the nation, hes already using these lines, and get Congress and his courts to back him.
I think Republicans would have little problem accepting this if a Dem won in 2020. Theyre miserable when not in charge.

I know if I was Trump, and contemplating Martial Law, I would be talking exactly as he is. I'd constantly claim we're under threat, that the whole world is burning, and that I'm the only one who can keep everyone safe.
Pretty smart strategy on his part. This is the man who colluded with Russia. I dont think he would have any problem at all staging a takeover if he gets elected out.
