03/02/2021 Rooting Interests

Agreed on all.

Ohio State has one game left, which is against Illinois. If Iowa wins 1 of the last 2, the tiebreaker goes to Iowa no matter what happens with OSU/Illinois.

Purdue has two games left. If Iowa loses the next two and they split, they would vault into the three seed.

I'd prefer to stay on the opposite side of the bracket as Michigan, so a three seed would be ideal. But the BTT will be tough no matter what there won't be an easy path.

If the Hawks get a double bye, their first game will be against someone very good, playing well and has at least a game under their belts. Gonna be a tough game, no matter who it is.

Baylor losing lots of games down the stretch, combined with a magical finish to Iowa's season and B1G tournament, could conceivably make a 1 seed in play for Iowa. That would include Illinois and Ohio State losing some down the stretch as well.

A 1 seed is in play without Baylor sliding. Illinois is thought to be the last 1 seed as of now.

They have games against Michigan and OSU to close out the regular season and Iowa could play them in the 2/3 game in the B1G tournament.

Right. But on point to this thread and "rooting interests", I won't be rooting for Baylor.

I will be.

West Virginia, with a win over Baylor, has a better chance of jumping Iowa on seeding than Iowa would have to jump Baylor.
If the season ended after that game, definitely. If WV loses more games I.E. Oklahoma State, drops one in the conference tournament, etc. Then I would not worry about it. This is all contingent on Iowa winning out of course. Including winning the B1G tournament. But anyway, I'm hoping Baylor stinks it up down the stretch either way. That leaves one more 1 seed spot in play that was not there before.

Illinois losing it's last two games and Iowa winning its last two is all that matters well that and Iowa winning a couple games in the tournament. They will be a 1 if that happens. And really, I don't care if they are a 2 as long as they aren't in Gonzaga, Michigan or Baylor's bracket.

Best case scenario is that ILlinois loses last 2 season games, Iowa wins last 2, iowa beats them in semis, with the selection committee holding the last #1 seed for the winner of that game....

This. In terms of Final Four prospects, it matters little whether a team is the lowest 1 or the highest 2. But if I were Gonzaga, Michigan, or Baylor I wouldn't like seeing Iowa on the bottom half of my bracket. A team with a great post and several shooters is a tough short prep. If you draw Iowa on a good shooting night it's going to be tough to keep up.

If Iowa can't win their last 2 games at home vs Nebraska and Wisconsin we don't deserve a double bye ;)

That's how I look at it, and saves me from having to root for the Badgers :)

I don't know, as much as I dislike Wisconsin, they are a decent team and losing to them wouldn't be a bad loss. Wisconsin beating Purdue does a lot to help Iowa's chances of securing a double bye.

Now, if Iowa can't beat Nebraska, I agree a double bye isn't deserved.

If they end up a 2 and the 4th 1 seed is a B1G team, Iowa would be in either Baylor or Gonzaga's bracket as they won't likely put 2 teams from the same conference as the 1 / 2 seeds in a region.

to win the BTT, we likely have to beat Purdue, Illinois, and Michigan

yikes.
Agree.
1. Purdue. Already did it.
2. ILlinois. Loss on road. Loss with out CJF. Loss b/c officials swallowed whistle on 4 step travel and long 3 pointer before half and idiotic goal tending call. Loss because Fran fouled out Garza fir 8-10 minutes
3. Michigan. Neutral floor yikes.

Call me crazy, but I'd rather take another shot at Gonzaga than Baylor. I do not like the match-up with Baylor's roster.

I'll give you the goaltending call. That 4-step travel wasn't even 2 steps.

To be fair, two of those three probably have us pretty well scouted on account of them slapping us around once already.

Best outcomes for Iowa would be wins by Baylor, SC, Auburn, Michigan, and Wisconsin.

I posted this in the Bracketology thread.

Rooting interests: Similar to what @TheTruthTheWholeTruth posted, we not only want Illinois & OSU to lose, but check out the teams starting with Alabama, West Virginia, etc in the right hand column; ideally these teams lose, too, this week and next.
