It is great to be an Iowa Wrestling fan.

Go Hawks!

What is the significance of attached/unattached designations? It looks like our strongest guys are unattached..

So, the ones wrestling attached…. Is it required to field an attached team?
Not necessarily. Tournament director decides who can come and what requirements they want(attached/unattached, numbers, etc…). Scuffle knew that Iowa wasn’t sending starters when to they let them in and probably limited them to 15 athletes. Unattached wrestlers can improve a field and give a preview fo the future and attached backups need matches too.

well if willy is so close to tnt, why are they going to scuffle instead of matmen

I don't think so. He had 1 year left plus a red shirt. If he pulls the red shirt I'm pretty certain that this is it for him.
Maybe @PinDoxRico can clarify but I thought he had 2 years left plus a redshirt. Wrestled 2 years plus the free year before transferring, so has 2 years left plus a redshirt

Well pindox has confirmed he has 2 plus a redshirt. Which makes more sense to me regardless. Why would he come to Iowa for one year and pull a redshirt when he has zero shot of unseating Kemdawg? (no offense intended to young Mr. Swafford, who I think is doing just fine BTW, but I live in the real world). That doesn't make any sense to me (not my life either but I sure as hell wouldn't do it that way, and he isn't).

Swafford has an uphill climb to unseat Brands next year too IMO, but from what I've seen he's far more dynamic and if he keeps improving never say never. I think he was well aware of what he was getting into, and kudos to him for taking it on. Happy to have him whatever his role is until he's done.

No offense taken! I mean, can’t ask for a more rational and respectful take than this.

And yep, he knew what he is getting into… and he gave up a full ride at Graceland to try it out.

I’ve spent so much time trying to speculate how things may unravel in the next few years at 165, 174 and 184, but I’ve pretty much given up with it (speculation), for there’s just so much that can happen health wise.

If you mean health wise to your personal mental health with all that speculating, I agree 100%! LOL!

Have a great day young man.

I don’t like it. What is happening? Is it because he only plans on being here 2 years or is there more to the story?

Zero benefit to wrestling attached for him in this tourney—even if he wants to use a year of eligibility this year.
The guys keeping their redshirt are unnattached, those that aren't are attached. Not any more complicated than that.
