As we should be. They have two losses and just got clobbered by Michigan while the BYU loss continues to look worse and worse. Anyone who watch the Iowa vs Wisconsin game knows who the better team is.

I would love to play Wisconsin again and not have as many screw ups, but we didn't deserve to win that game. Let's not act like Iowa State fans claiming "the better team lost".

Iowa deserves to be ahead of Wisconsin simply because we only have 1 loss.

Yep, mistakes are part of the game, costly mistakes lose you games. No excuses, the Hawks lost that game. Should they have won? Yes, but they didn’t, doesn’t matter though. If, and it’s a big if, they win out they will end up in Indy, win that they will be top 5. This team has the offensive talent and now the play calling to beat damn near anybody. As the Wisconsin game showed, if they do bone headed things they can lose to anybody as well.

I have to believe at this point that you're doing this just out of superstition. You started being negative at the beginning of the year and the Hawks won. So surely you're doing this to continue the trend.
It has been A LOT longer then the beginning of this year, but yes, it his tradition to post this stuff. Anybody who has been here a while knows it, others needlessly argue with him.

Scoreboard Says Wisconsin
I certainly see your point. We did after all lose to them at home. I think we looked like the better team but outcomes matter. It's not possible for some teams to be not be ahead of other teams they have lost to though. BYU is ranked below Wisconsin. Florida is ranked below LSU. Maryland is ranked below Texas. Stanford is ranked below Oregon. I'm sure there are more examples. Whether we really deserve to be ranked ahead of them will sort itself by the end of the year. We'll have seven games against common opponents that may be enough to outweigh losing to them at home. We'll see.

If teams played each other in a series maybe we would see who is the better team. Reality is that you get one shot at each game, and football has a lot of breaks, momentum, etc.
Iowa looked like the better team against Wisconsin that day, but made some costly mistakes and lost. Were the two teams to play numerous games, maybe Iowa would win the majority, but we will never know. To an extent, the Polls try to make those same guesses.

Scoreboards sometimes lie. Anybody who has ever played or watched sports should know that. The best team doesn't always win. And if they did, there would be little point in playing the games. Wisconsin earned the win in Iowa City, but the Badgers are not a better team than Iowa. They played mistake free in Iowa City, and the Hawkeyes did not. Change ONE of half a dozen plays in that game, and Iowa wins easily. But that's not how sports work. So as others have said, the Hawkeyes have no choice but to take that loss out on everyone else on the schedule. And so far, they're doing exactly that. Keep it up, and we can all meet in Indy on Dec. 1 and cheer Iowa on to a Big Ten title and whatever lies beyond. I'm looking forward to it.

We agree on the better team doesnt always win as we see the results of that every day. A lot of times that is due to coaching and effort. If those didnt come into play, then there would be no reason to even have the game.

Not sure what you mean on your 30/70 analogy.

The better team doesn't always win. Since the college bowl season is based 70% on bullshit and 30% on actual on the field performance who beats who doesn't always matter.

I read something a week or two ago that had Wisconsin winning the west, but Iowa would get the best Bowl because we are predicted to have a better record. Well, if we end up second in the west, Bucky can thank us for the early Xmas gift.

I could see that. We both win out before the Big Ten championship game. Iowa is 11-1 while Wisconsin is 10-3. Iowa would be much more appealing.

Even with one more loss each the 10-2 vs. 9-4 would be much more appealing.

If that happened Iowa would get the Rose Bowl because I believe the RB is not part of the playoffs this year. Not bad.

The numbers are made up, but the point is that where you start in pre-season polls and the name on your jersey has a greater impact on your chances of playing for a National Championship than your play on the field does. There are discussions every year that a 2 loss Alabama could/should get invited over several 1 loss and undefeated teams. UCF very well might go undefeated for 2 straight seasons and not even get close enough to sniff a playoff bid.

Until the emphasis for playoff births is on the field play and not on other things that really don't have anything to do with it, then this kind of stuff will be the case.

Doesn't 2015 disprove this theory?
Where were we ranked in august 2015?
We beat MSU and we're in the playoffs and the only thing stopping us at that point would be on-the-field performance.

Iowa had to go undefeated for that to happen. He is saying Alabama loses two and gets picked over one-loss teams.

Not really. Iowa is in a place where if they play perfect, they are in. You could make the argument that a 1 loss Iowa team in 2002 would have gotten an invite to the playoffs if it existed then, but that would mean the Big 10 would get two teams in. Any other year, if Iowa loses once, they will not get in. I will be happy to eat crow and be proven wrong this year, but the media will say how Ohio State (assuming that's who they would have to beat in the CCG) had "flaws" and were never really tested. If Notre Dame doesn't lose, then there is no way Iowa can get in. Generally speaking, there are only a few 1 loss teams that are ever deamed "worthy". A group of 5 team has zero chance of ever playing for a national championship.

I just want a system where every team in division 1 football can be told, "Unhappy about not being in the playoffs? Then win your conference". Then, while you might be upset so and so got an at large bid over you, the truth is your team put themselves in that position by not winning the conference.

For Iowa to be ranked #19 in the AP Poll is a credit
to the players and coaches of the Iowa Hawkeyes.
However, the next game with Maryland at Kinnick
Stadium is worthy of our complete focus this week.
We need to continue to win one game at a time.
Hopefully the Hawkeyes will play for a Conference
Championship this season.

First off there is no example to back up that hypothetical. I know what he is saying. You don't understand what I'm saying. A team controls it's own destiny. You obviously have a different take. If Iowa or any team fails to make the playoff they can blame themselves and that's pretty much it.

I think he’s just a troll, a fan of Iowa State, Minnesota or somebody and just doesn’t have a whole lot to do.

I think Michigan wins the East, Ohio St has looked very pedestrian the last couple weeks against Indiana and Minnesota!

And even at 12-0 in the BIG, there were still people saying we didn't belong in the playoff, had we beaten MSU. Now we would have been in, Delaney would have gone off the rails had we not, but had there been another scenario where say there were three other undefeated teams and one loss Bama, I woudn't have bet the farm on our shot then.

In that scenario, the OSU- Mich loser probably goes to Pasadena.
