Today I just realized that 1999 was 17 years ago. It hit me. We have had really good teams since 1999 as well. It's sickening and saddening that it has been that long.
Only one truly excellent team, and we all know what happened to them.
The other tourney teams included three #7 seeds and two double digit seeds.
Only 6 tourney teams during that timeframe and all but one played up (down?) to their seeding. All three 7 seeds won their first round games and then promptly lost to heavily favored 2 seeds in the next round. The two double digit seeds that barely made it in were bounced in round 1.
Not exactly a ton of upsets or bad luck involved here (with one notable exception), just a thoroughly mediocre program for several years.
