Florida has the 2nd largest elderly population per capita (Maine is #1), and leads the nation by a wide margin in the total number of seniors.

Of course Florida is going to lead the nation in COVID deaths. That would be the case no matter what the governor does or doesn't do.

Conversely, and likely more logically, KNOWING that the population was more at risk, public policy should have been more concerned with modicum of protection for these individuals instead of swinging the other direction on the pendulum and pretending it was just the flu.

Also notable, Maine was 50% the per capita death rate even though, per your own information, has the largest elderly population. Ergo, his policies didn't work for the most at risk.

Everyone lives out in the woods in Maine. Lots of social distancing.

You response is a distraction to the topic at hand. You acknowledge that Florida has a huge population of seniors, yet you ignore the possibly that public policy that contributed to the death rate. Isn't public safety of the total population one of the primary tenants of an elected official? Ergo, he failed his voters, especially the most at risk.

Also compare the other top5 Maine, FL, WVA, Vermont and Delaware. Hell, compare Texas, CA and FL just based on population, and FL shows to be worse than them as well.

The elderly population makes up the vast majority of people who die from Covid.

Florida has the largest elderly population so it makes sense that Florida has more Covid deaths.

I really don't see anything in the stats that indicates "public health measures" did anything. The number of deaths is closely correlated to the number of elderly people in both red or blue states.

Actually FL is 3rd in total population. And fared worse that Texas and CA, which are both higher in population. I already addressed that in my post you quoted.

relevant consideration. Do we have any data that controls for age?

Maybe but let’s do some SIP, pants shitting, and New Orleans vacationing and see first.

Why in the world in the year 2022 are we still blaming Covid deaths on government policy when every statistical data point we have shows govt policy did nothing to stop the spread of this disease? I can't believe this is really a thing until I see who the ones are blaming DeSantis in this thread and whose lives revolve their political team scoring "wins."
