ISU's loss reminds me of 2006: Iowa finished 2nd in the B1G reg season, won the BTT, was a 3 seed, lost to the 14 seed

This year, ISU followed the exact same path: they finished 2nd in the Big 12 reg season, won the Big12 Tourney, was a 3 seed, lost to the 14 seed.

Neither team will care that they won their conf tourney; but they will never forget losing in the round of 64 of the NCAA tournament

Maybe ISU fans will reply to this thread?? They eventually will be back....right?

There is no direct correlation between winning your conference tournament and winning the national title. With that, and the fact that the vast majority of national titles over the course of recent college basketball history have been won by blue-bloods or teams full of future NBA star talent, in mind..................it IS worth noting that in the last 18 years (and you could keep going on and on), only TWICE has a team won a national title in the NCAA tournament after not winning either their conference regular season or tournament title.

In the last 10 years, 6 of the winners won their conference tournament and 3 more were champions in the regular season. Only UConn, with their unprecedented run last year, has won an NCAA title without winning a regular season or conference title as well. Before that, you have to go back to 1997 when Arizona did the same, although they were certainly considered much more of a contender than UConn was last year.
