Q:
Why did you end up picking Iowa?
SCHMIDT: “Ever since I was little, it was
always a dream of mine to go to Iowa and play football. When I went on my
official visit, I saw all of the new facilities and it felt like the place for
me. I could see myself going to Iowa.”
Q: When was your official visit to
Iowa?
SCHMIDT: “It was last Wednesday and Thursday.”
Q: How did your
official trip end up going?
SCHMIDT: “I met with all the coaches and walked
around the new buildings that they had built. I met with some of the players and
go to go to a practice. I was able to see everything inside of Iowa football.”
Q: With many of your classmates deciding in February, why did you decide to
wait it out?
SCHMIDT: “I just wanted to make sure it was the right decision
for me. I wanted to get on my official first. I wanted to make sure it was the
right place for me to go.”
Q: What other schools were you considering?
SCHMIDT: “I had some Division II and III schools along with some Division Is
that were looking at me but I decided that Iowa was the place for me. I had a
great visit and I am really excited to go to Iowa.”
Q: Did you narrow
things down in recruiting?
SCHMIDT: “Yeah, I had it between Iowa and
Stanford.”
Q: What was the situation at Stanford?
SCHMIDT: “They
wanted me to walk-on too.”
Q: What did they say about you playing
quarterback?
SCHMIDT: “Iowa just gives me the best opportunity to compete at
quarterback because it is what I’ve always played. They said that I would be a
quarterback and go from there.”
Q: How do you feel about two recruits
coming in at quarterback with your class?
SCHMIDT: “They are both great
quarterbacks and it will be a lot of competing in practice and in general.
Competition is good and it’ll be a good environment.”
Q: How long have
you been hearing from Iowa and when they did offer the walk-on?
SCHMIDT:
“I’ve been in contact with them the past couple of years because they are so
close in Iowa City. They told me that they wanted me to walk-on about a month
and a half ago.”
Q: How does it feel to live your dream in getting a
chance to play at Iowa?
SCHMIDT: “It is something I’ve always wanted to do
since I was a little kid. Once they told me they wanted me in their program, I
was pumped. It is always what I wanted to do.”
Q: How big are you now?
SCHMIDT: “Right now I’m about 6-foot-5, 225 pounds.”
