2017-18 lineup?

Yes I am from West Liberty graduated in 1992. I am related to Bryce and Will so I am a bit bias there. Joe Kelly has REALLY impressed me this year!! This summer at camp Jaybo was working with Bryce and McDonough was working with Joe and I can tell you they both have improved a lot because of just 1 day with those guys. I think they both would excel in the Iowa room. Only problem is what is coming in. Joe looks like a 157 type guy and there Nelson/TheBull/Kemdawg in that range. Bryce would be 197 with Warner coming it will be VERY hard for Bryce to beat him out. If Bryce could make 184 I think he would slide in right after Wilcke is gone...

Another option for 197 is already at the university but playing the wrong sport. I have a hard time believing Sam Cook will ever find significant playing time in football. I would like to see him move over to the wrestling room.

If we are plucking kids from other teams on campus you will need to get in line. I already have a waiver out for Ahmed Wagner to play TE on the football team.

Don't be so sure. Cook reportedly showed very well in practice this year.

Nelson is a absolute BEAST on the mat and continues to get better. Off the mat he is pretty mild mannered(atleast from what I have seen) He is VERY humble from what I have seen.

Here's 2 "under the radar" type guys that I know are being looked at also.

Joe Kelly he just pinned #2 Issac Judge in the 1st period and its not like he caught him, he took him down off of Issac's shot and then just bull rushed a arm bar over for the fall. Then he just walked through the Solon tourney pinning #5 in the finals.
Bryce Esmoil is #1 at 195 he is tearing people apart. He lost a couple in his 1st tournament and is tearing people up. Strong as a ox and he knows what he is going to do 3 moves ahead of time. He just amazes me with what he does. Both are multi-sport athletes so the ceilings on both are pretty high...

Not sure about that on Esmoil. Correct me if I'm wrong but he's been wrestling since he was in diapers.

I might eat my own words but he seems like a tweener athlete. He doesn't possess the top end speed or agility to be a top tier running back. He's too small for a lot of other positions at only about 5'10". I could possibly see him as a future fullback if he added another 30+ pounds.

I don't think my idea is so far fetched. Wagner could have been a D1 football player but it's unlikely he makes the transition when he receives playing time.

Cook could be similar to Jordan McGaughlin, who started in football and joined the wrestling program his third year at school. Cook is a much better prospect than McGaughlin too.

There's a poster on here who loses his mind every time someone talks about Cook playing fullback so I'm not going down that road.

Lol, I'll steer away from that but where is he projected then? RB I assume.

Iowa isn't really loaded with young RBs right now but that might change before signing day. They have Toks and Toren Young right behind Wadley now and both have 2-3 years left. They added a solid prospect in Kelly-Martin in this class and may have another 3* before February in Davion Johnson or possibly a really strong prospect in Kyshaun Bryan. I think Cook would be a ways down the totem pole.

Cook is a hard worker and deserves a fair shake but I'm skeptical about this working out.

Likely not me. The position I project him at is 197.
There just isn't any way he is serious about football if he still can make 197. He will need to be in the Football facility, lifting and taking in protein etc like crazy and working on getting to 220-230 to have a chance at Full back and also play full time on special teams. I do believe Cook could be one heck of a tackler on kickoff coverage. I don't doubt Cook wouldn't be an interesting 197 backup for Warner and I would like to see it. Again just saying it would have to happen now or soon, not 1 year from now due to how Doyle's weight and training will kiss 197 goodbye in short time. If you pay attention to weight gain in the redshirt year I would expect 10-15 in muscle for Sam and there aint no coming back down from that.

Shhh, you said fullback.

Nevills brother is also in that class and a top 10 p4p guy. Is that an option or do they really think Costello is the future successor at 285?
Nevills will most likely playing football (more scholorship money) I believe that they believe costello (ranked 8th on intermat) is the guy. I believe brands is a top tier recruit in the state along with Thomsen and teske. Costello is not in top tier yet because of the lack of results.

TnT will be going after both Gable and Shultz even with Costello committed. Will see if they land either. Shultz more likely IMO. If he would RS Costello would be the started for his SO year after Stoll graduates. He does have the talent to start as a TF after Stoll graduates.
