There it is. Joe Touissant, looks like a tough NY kid. Think this is what Iowa could use. We’ll see

Great to see Fran still trying to land a 2019 PG. I liked the toughness and court awareness in Toissant's tapes, although he looks pretty short. Not sure about his outside shot, which isn't critical, but he can penetrate and use both hands well.

Where are Greenlee and Collins from? Seems we have been evaluating and interested in quite a few NY guys, so curious about these young men.

I'm not sure a 165 lb. kid would be considered tough if he grew up someplace other then New York. We know that strength is a point of emphasis for the Hawks and I wouldn't expect this to be a solution.

I have no idea if any of these offers are going to be the pg solution for the Hawks but toughness likely means defensive intensity in this case.

This may be a great offer, but I can hear the outrage if 6'3" 225 guards successfully post him up. A quick defensive specialist with ball skills that allow him to penetrate can certainly fill a need for the Hawks, but to expect him to set a standard for toughness is probably unfair and unrealistic for the recruit.

How many 6’3” 225 guards are there in the Big Ten?

Pgs posting up isn't a thing in college basketball.

Posting up in general is barely still a thing.

Again, it’s been said all along that the coaches don’t think a PG is a necessary get for the 2019 class, so these offers must be to players they want. Hopefully they are the types of guards that can defend on the perimeter and offensively create for their teammates. As much as people liked to rip on Mike G and Clemmons, they did both those things at a very high level. Rarely saw guards penetrate to the lane against those two. Need some guys like that.

I am pretty skeptical about anything the coaches say about recruiting. They have competition and they don’t want to tip their hand. I imagine what they say to recruits is not the same they say to journalists. I watch what they do more than I listen to what they say.

Looks like Fran is throwing a Hail Mary and trying to find anyone. Throwing out a lot of offers, I just hope it’s the right fit. I don’t want a player who comes for 1 year and then leaves. Need to get a player who will stay in the system and develop w/teammates.

The kid from the Bronx looks like the real deal. Any player from the Bronx is gonna be tough. I just worry that he will come for 1 year and then leave.

A Hail Mary to anyone? Except he hasn’t offered Hutchins and others that we know they’ve been watching.

These are the type of guys Fran should have been going after for past 7 years instead of the Brady Ellingsons and CWs and Huttons and Flemmings. Get them on campus and if they blossom, you have a stud....if they flop, run them off the squad like every other coach does in NCAA.

So like what he did with those guys you mentioned?

It doesn't look that way at all to me. It looks to me as if the staff is being very careful to offer only the guys they think can really help and being very selective. I don't see this as a "hail Mary" in any way, shape or form.

Not bad. Kind of a Gesell/Clemmons mix. Actually, he reminds me of Daniel Ruffin (Bradley PG who led 2006 Sweet Sixteen—with Iowa transfer Marcellus Sommerville).

Does everyones concern mean we wouldn't have liked to have had Tyler Ulis all of a sudden? I mean wasn't he like 5'8" or something?:confused::confused:

I'd would be happy with a Muggsie Boggs too, but I get the the feeling this kid isn't Ulis.

For what it's worth my concern was primarily that he is being sold on toughness and I'm not sure that a fair expectation. I suspose it goes to what you define as toughness.

He looks more short than weak. 165 for someone who is probably 5-9 isn't skinny. We need an on-ball defender and ball handler at PG, and that usually requires more quickness than strength. NYC players usually play with an edge that most of Iowa's players don't have. I don't know how he compares to other recruits, but his tape shows a lot of the skills we are looking for.

Revisionist history and hindsight is 20/20. On the day those guys signed people dreamed of them reaching the fullest potential and being studs. That is the same thing you are doing dreaming about these new offers.

Since it seems to be difficult for Iowa to get a pg, do we take 2 of these guys if they would commit?

Yes please. It's a guards game. I say we go guard heavy vs big heavy

This same thought has gone through my head but in the end I don’t think that they take two....I think that the roster and next years potential recruits dictate otherwise....just my wild azz guess.

I like the kid from NY and the one from Saint Louis best....

Yup the kid from the Bronx is #1 and the kid from St. Louis is #2 in my book as well. I don’t see the problem with taking 2 pgs. The more guards the better. We are a Big and slow team. We need more quickness on the perimeter. For both offense and defensive purposes.

I have no illusions..these are not blue chippers. Some will work out. They have more potential then a lot of the guys Fran has offered in past because they at least have athleticism. The day Fran offered Ellingson, I said wtf. Same with Flemming. The bottom line is Fran needs to distinguish himself with player evaluation skills because he's not been able to sign the 4-5 star guard talent. Recent years, Fran's guard recruiting has been spotty...hence the 4-14 B1G bottom feeder record.
