2021-2022 Men’s Schedule

They’ll be back but I don’t think we’ll see anything announced until summer

So, with a young team....clearly a completely different team than this year, I look for a fairly light non con schedule. I HOPE we don't see those 300 range teams BUT I believe that we need a number of 150-225 ranked teams to have our squad build some confidence and cohesion on the floor.

We are still going to have some tough opponents in the challenges and ISU has to be better next year, right? That game will be in Ames.

When is our next chance for an overseas trip? Would that be possible in the late fall with COVID at that point?

I think it will be BAU for college football, and certainly basketball since the vaccine will be open to all well before then. We may even see colleges "require" them to step foot on campus in the fall (albeit, like any vaccine, there are allowable exemptions, hence the quotation marks).

However, I think in the future we should resolve to stop making huge extrapolations about the relative strength of power 5 conferences based on ACC/B1G and early season tournaments/neutral site games. We should stop using these as decisive predictors of relative strength in March, and we should probably largely assume that when trying to compare P5 teams that their record is their record, and that's how good they are. A 20-21 win team from the B1G simply isn't going to be leaps and bounds better than a 20-21 win team from those other leagues, and that's probably a better true north than anything KenPom or the AP can offer up.

The non-conference will take a few months with "the made for television" matchups that have to be determined, such as the B10-ACC challenge.
