The defending B1G tournament champion Hawkeyes start exhibition play hosting South Dakota today at noon. Macy Enneking is the program’s first preseason All-American watch list selection. Her and forward Meike Ingles give us two former B1G Tournament MVPs in their final seasons. Ingles-McGroarty are our best forward pairing ever if Ingles stays healthy.

No more scoring in the second half…

Okay, I won’t keep talking to myself, but the regular season kicks off this afternoon at 4 PM on ESPN+ vs Oregon State. It’s a weekend event of season openers from Missoula, MT called “Rumble in the Rockies”. Sunday is Colorado College there, also on ESPN+.

Was beating Oregon State 2-0 on two Berit Parten goals Thursday night, but lightning delays pushed it back and the Beavers didn’t want to play Saturday morning so it was called a “no contest”. Pretty weak.

Now on ESPN+ they’re dominating possession over Colorado College, who scored on their only shot so far this half. Sofia Bush of Marion hit a top corner beauty from distance to make it 1-1 near the end of the first half. Hawkeyes looking to convert more chances this coming second half.

UPDATE: Final is 4-1 Hawkeyes. Freshman Berkeley Bengelli with two goals, Meike Ingles with an assist and a bomb of a goal from distance to cap it. Next up are two big ones vs favorites to win their conferences. At Western Michigan on Thursday night, and then 1 PM Sunday at #17 Texas on SEC Network.

The tie yesterday 1-1 was a little bit of surprising. Lotta games left though. Parten is an amazing soccer player, I wonder if she has ever gone 2 games in a row without scoring? LOL

True freshman starting, super impressive.

She came awfully close to scoring a couple times yesterday. Still ticked that Enneking got caught off her line to tie it. I know WMU is defending MAC Champions at home, and favorites again this year, but our girls outplayed them. Should have been a W.

We’re up to #24 and are at #12 Texas in a nationally televised match on SEC Network Sunday afternoon.

Tied 0-0...not to shabby...Texas is a lot to handle had outscored opponents 11-3 in 3 games....95 degrees during game play and both teams combined for 27 shots (19 for Texas 8 for Iowa).

103 on the heat index. Yikes! Yeah, Texas was the Big 12 Tournament Champions, made the Soccer Sweet 16, are picked to win the SEC this year by SEC Network, have returned ALL eleven of their starters and 97 percent of their goals and assists, with consecutive top ten recruiting classes on the bench. Really good result for Iowa to go there and not only get a draw, but really be the aggressor most of the match. Most of Texas' 19 shots were either really crosses, easy lobs from distance, or from way outside and over the bar. Two of the best chances were from Hawkeyes Elle Otto and Meike Ingles. Ingles was the best player on the field (apart from maybe the Texas goalkeeper). She was hitting backheels, nutmegs, and even a perfect sombrero over an on rushing attacker. Her laser from distance was heading upper corner before being tipped off the crossbar. That was the closest either team came to scoring.

This week is four straight home matches: consecutive conference champ and tournament regular, Florida Gulf Coast on Thursday, Wake Forest on Sunday afternoon, and Baylor the following Sunday, and Nebraska to open B1G play the Thursday after that.

The phenomenal true freshman does it again! Another multi-goal game for Berit Parten in a 2-0 win over #18 Wake Forest. Could have been MUCH worse were it not for some highly questionable officiating (a breakaway denied after a defender’s no-contact slip, an egregious hand ball in the box not called, and Partin and Hansen going off the crossbar and post respectively.

Hawkeyes ran out to a somewhat flattering 3-0 win over Baylor, with all those goals coming second half. Yes, the Hawks widely outshot Baylor and out-possessed Baylor, but much of those shots came from outside the box. The Bears had three golden chances of their own. Early second half with it still 0-0, a ball deflected right to a wide open forward, but Enneking closed her down quick made a great sprawling save. Then another shot soon after was blocked off the line by the Hawks. Headers from Fetty and Parten, and a late PK from Johnston sealed the 3-0 win. Went to Ames for this. Hawks just have so much depth that they can substitute and stay fresh while losing little and wearing opponents down. Ingles had another bomb, Hansen created another with her pace on the ball, Parten's was a classic poacher waiting to pounce on a loose ball. Interesting to note: If Oregon State had agreed to finish the match, Parten would have seven goals this season, second most for any freshman in NCAA-D1. The top goal scoring freshman? Fellow Minnesotan Izzy Engle at Notre Dame. Club teammate in high school of Maddyn Greenway.

#18 Iowa 1, #17 Ohio State 1 at Columbus, OH.

A little through ball in the attacking third through caught Johnston a little flat footed, though she got back goal side, one quick cut and shot from the Buckeye attacker from just outside the box slipped past her and through the defense. Excellent goal really there in the first half. But Maya Hansen is heating up. She made her own quick move outside the box and unleashed what proved to be the equalizer..

Enneking had three saves and each showcased why she's on the Hermann Award watch list (the Heisman of soccer) with her ability to close down one-on-one breakaway opportunities, great positioning, and range in diving either way...

Our soccer team's defense might be better than our football team's. And like football, our offense is much deeper and much improved. It's remarkable how dominant we were. Penn State was #9 according to the computer rankings, and we were #13. We're looking at top ten next week if there's no letdown at Northwestern on Sunday:
