Updated Sep 19, 2022

We currently have 5 scholarships available the 2024 class. This number, of course, will change as players commit to the 2023 & 2024 classes and as players come and go via the Transfer Portal or leave early for the NBA Draft.

And why 5? Well, at one time we had 6 players scheduled to graduate/be done in May, 2024: Josh Ogundele, Tony Perkins, Ahron Ulis, Keegan Murray (entered NBA Draft in 2022), Kris Murray, and Patrick McCaffery. Will any of these players take advantage of the free, additional covid year (they would count against the 13 scholarship limit)? Stay tuned.

In Men's basketball, of course, you can have 13 on scholarship.

Amarion Nimmers--a 2022 6'3" combo guard; on April 30, 2022, it was announced he would be joining the roster as a preferred walk on.

Good stuff..that 2024 roster looks like it has a talented core already.

What's fun is when you go back to the orig post and pencil in Pryce Sandfort (4 Star, Top 100) as a sophomore and Cooper Koch as a freshman. Suddenly, the core goes from 5 to 7 players. I can only imagine what comes to @EvilMonkeyInTheCloset 's mind. ;)

EDIT: And in May, 2024, right now we have these 6 players scheduled to be gone: Josh Ogundele, Tony Perkins, Ahron Ulis, Keegan Murray, Kris Murray, and Patrick McCaffery. Will any of these 6 take advantage of the free, additional covid year? If so, will they count against the 13 scholarship allotment? Granted, Keegan will be long gone by then, but it's an interesting jig saw puzzle.

Also, I updated the orig post with this:

* JT Rock is offer #7; he was offered in November. If I missed any other offers, let me know.

* On June 25, 2021, Tom Kakert forecasted Cooper Koch to Iowa.

Iowa offered Kon Knueppel on July 9, 2021.

As we know, getting a kid to visit is huge. Well, Kon unofficially visited Sep 18, 2021 (Kent State game).

And, sure, he's a Wisconsin kid, but Greg Gard has some issues. ;)

Here are his freshman highlights. Note you will hear the announcer say he's 6'3; Rivals now has him at 6'5.

A Nov 5 Rivals article stated that Fran, Greg Gard, Greg McDermott and T.J. Otzelberger, among others, have been in attendance for open gyms.

Also, I updated the orig post. JT visited Iowa for its football season opener on Sept. 4 (vs Indiana).

Here is a picture from that visit:

Looks like Fran is gonna beat out the home state Illini for this kid because on June 25, 2021, Tom Kakert forecasted Cooper to Iowa.

Fran and his assistants were watching Cooper at the Adidas 3SSB (3 Stripes Select) event that was being held from April 8-10 in Indianapolis, IN.

Cooper was impressive, as you can see by the comments that follow.

As you can also see, Dean Oliver and Wisconsin think they have a legitimate shot at landing Cooper.

On June 25, 2021, Tom Kakert forecasted Cooper to Iowa.

This is a good story. Purdue assistant coach Paul Lusk started his college career playing for Tom Davis at Iowa before moving on to Southern Illinois.

Some excerpts:

Purdue’s game day environment stood out. “It’s definitely the best atmosphere out of all the places,” Koch said. “The student section’s always packed and it’s a full house and they always seem to play well there, and they’re a winning program.”

Purdue and the rest of the Big Ten chasing the versatile 6-foot-7, 200-pound forward may need to overcome considerable connections to Iowa, the alma mater of both his parents. Koch’s father, JR, played for Tom Davis and the Hawkeyes from ’95-99 before getting drafted by the Knicks, then playing several years professionally, mostly overseas.

“We do have a lot of ties there,” Koch said, “but my parents, they don’t care where I go as long as I’m happy with the decision and I like where I’m going.”

Iowa has not yet offered Travis Perry but are recruiting him hard.

Perry is a guard who can play on and off of the ball and can score from all 3 levels.

What he said about Iowa: “I love their coaching staff. They’ve got one of the best coaching staffs in the country, I think. I really love the way that they run things and I love how they’ve played the last few years. I’ve been watching them a ton, and they’ve been making good runs.”

Iowa is watching but has not offered Ty Davis, a 6’4 PG with a 4.05 GPA.

He plays at Mountain Brook HS, which is in Alabama.

47% from 3 sounds good. And as you can see, he has some range.

What are you hearing about Caden Wilkins from Bettendorf?

Rivals lists him with one offer (Bryant).

He unofficially visited UNI on May 6.

Wisconsin, Iowa, Marquette, and Butler are some of the other programs who have not offered but are tracking him.

Scott and Tony are scouts. Rodger is a writer for SLAM Magazine & a contributor to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. They were watching Caden last weekend in Minneapolis for the "Battle at the Lakes" event.

This is what they had to say:

This is a good story.

As a sophomore, Wilkins (6-6, 200) led Bettendorf in scoring (16.1 PPG) and rebounding (5.8 RPG). He shot 33% from 3, an area he’s working on improving.

He unofficially visited Iowa last fall (Sat Sep 18, 2021). Jack McCaffery hung out with him.

“I really liked the way the visit was set up. It gave me a great feel for Hawkeye Basketball. The environment in Iowa City was great.”

“Their coaching staff never got into too much depth about my game in my time up there, but I’m sure they’re looking to see a higher percent and higher volume from three-point range."

Junior contact day begins today. Iowa has made 7 offers so far for this class; see original post for the list.

The big name for 2024, of course, is Cooper Koch. Cooper visited Iowa on Oct 9, 2021 (Penn State game). On June 25, 2021, Tom Kakert forecasted Cooper to Iowa.
