Now that "he who shall not be named" is gone from the program, how do you project the starting lineup in 2024?

Idk, I think he still has time to change his mind again. Just because he said he’s going back to Alabama doesn’t really mean anything. Hasn’t he committed to a school like 4 times already and has only played 1 year of football. lol 😂

LT-Richman
LG-Dejong
C-Jones
RG-Colby
RT-Dunker

The coaches have an obsession with Dejong. My hope is Elsbury supplants him at LG or a Tackle like Dotzler or Lauck emerges and can kick Richman inside
With that lineup, we’ll be pushing for a 100+ ranking in every offensive category. Again.

That’s fun. It’s unreal we kept our OL coach.

KF says Barnett is brilliant, just like Brian and the Bud man and everybody else. What we see doesn't mean anything. Just believe what you're told, despite the facts, despite common sense. That's how all good cults work, or haven't you been paying attention?

I'd at least switch the soiled diapers with trash at the OT spots.

I am not this pessimistic. Hoping the OC can do some things with plays and play calls that help out an average OL. Quicker throws more misdirection / movement kind of stuff.

As we know, last year we just ran head long into a brick wall over and over.

My hope initially was a new OC helps the OL with scheme and play calls just like you said. Obviously I thought they could be "good" with Proctor.
I now am back to my initial hope.

This is correct. BF made everything about the Iowa offense look even worse than it was. You don't have to have All Americans everywhere to move the ball and score every now and then. Many of us have been begging for misdirection and quick throws forever. It's football 101. But BF couldn't figure it out in seven wasted years.

And having Lainez, or to a lesser extent a healthy McNamara, at QB instead of the 2-ton statue of a turnover machine would make everyone--OL and WRs--look 1,000 percent better.

It's way past time for KF to get the hell outta the way and let someone who knows offense do what he can to pull the Hawkeyes outta the offensive muck. Anything less, and Beth needs to get creatively aggressive.

BTW: Is Brian Ferentz still unemployed? LOL

When was the last time we had a solid OL across the line ? 2008?

Seems we have the individual talent but there’s always a few spots that Kirk cannot figure out.

I am tired of the hockey line changes for both OL and RB

RB you can expect some breathers, but figure out your ****ing best 5 before conference at least and stick with it!

It would also help if Iowa could build a larger lead than 3 points and we blow someone out to get the backups much needed reps.

I don’t agree with sending in your backup every other series. It screws with the overall cohesion

Elsbury at Center. Colby at a guard and Dunker at a Tackle. Stephens at the other tackle with Jones at a guard. Richman and Dejong are not Big Ten linemen. Sprinkle in some youngsters on the depth chart.

The saying people like to use here of “I trust the coaches”, has to be completely banned when it comes to our OL. We NEED to bring in a previous starting OL from a power 5 school that can help this OL. I agree that scheme was probably an issue but this OL is terrible. The coaches love Richman and Dejong and their “experience” that the coaches prioritize over production will allow them to keep their spots. Would like nothing more than a couple of those starters to lose their spots due to others beating them out. Just rarely ever happens. Still can’t believe Iowa’s line has evolved to this.

Stephen’s is solid and due for a breakout. Dunker improved as the season progressed. Those two starting at OT makes a lot of sense. Richman - good god, please no.

Lots of experience on the OL though the on field results have been mid-level FCS caliber.

Fair to be skeptical with Barnett in his fourth season. Wait for the first game to see if there is finally any improvement.

When Wirfs and Alaric Jackson were last there. That was a solid OL.

That could either be really good, or really bad.
What about all these young Olinemen that are on the roster? Is it stubbornness by the staff that none of them see the field, or are they just not that good that we are seeing basically the same line?

Whether it is correct or not, I have always felt that in order for a person to jump the depth chart over a starter, that person has to be leaps and bounds better than the starter to force the hand of the coaches. Maybe it is like that everywhere. I just feel that unless you are a running back who fumbles the ball, it is hard for a position player to overtake a current starter.

Excellent question. Either they're not that good to jump guys ahead of them, who aren't that good, or it's staff stubbornness and loyalty.

I can tell you Lauck look like he needed weight gain and strength and conditioning yet last fall during the open practice.

Barnett has had three years! Granted, our offensive line was rock bottom in terms of personnel and that is on KF and due to injuries. I do feel we would greatly help our depth picking up a starter in the portal. I think that needs to be a priority. Last year our OL was decimated by injuries on top of bad play. Need as much depth as possible.
