Ben will schedule the nonconference so that it helps Iowa make the NCAA Tournament.
Hopefully that means that the 7 (or so) nonconference cupcakes are ranked in the high 100's/low 200's by KenPom, at most.

And if you go on the 28 Nov. you'll be able to see your favorite whipping boy Brock and his Horny Frogs play Santa Clara. Won't that be fun! You can sit on the opponent side of the benches and yell weird noises while Brock is shooting free throws like the guy last night at the MGM Grand hotel during the Crown tournament. Can't wait to see you on TV....

Thanks for the info and it makes sense. I do think we need to establish a presence in the Des Moines metro area but this coaching staff should have no problem with that having spent a year there.

Good move to generate interest in the program in Des Moines area by playing a neutral in DM against a decent opponent in a decent conference...
St Louis (out of the Atlantic 10) is ranked #121 at the end of the season by KenPom.
I think NIL is going to make scheduling in regards to NET a lot harder.
With the amount of roster turnover you might a schedule a team you project as a 100-200 type team but their roster gets pillaged and they end up being a tomato can.
It’s not like they need to generate interest there. Des Moines is Hawkeye country. More like throwing a bone to all the fans in Central Iowa.
True, but I don't think Robert Morris doesn't have a history of being a regular over 250 NET, like some of the teams Iowa has been playing pre-B1G. The goal should be to have nearly all of the teams on the schedule to be under 200 NET, preferably below 150.
Sounds like the Acrisure tourney will have some potential good match ups, and Xavier will be a big challenge. St Louis in DM is a good game. I like the idea of scheduling a quality team on a neutral site, like the Utah game last year. It seems like that would be easier than a home and away agreement.
Tournament in Orlando 2015 was a good time. Advocate Invitational at that time. Held on Disney Sports Complex.
Kind of pissing on the season ticket holders as well. Like last season, they had a 'decent' non-conference schedule, but the good games were in Sioux Falls, KC and Moline.
The season ticket holders don't show up to the "decent" home conference games. No need to play to an audience that isn't there.
That game better be sold out! Fans have been complaining for years about the Non-Conference schedule. This is it!
