Here is a “cool story bro.”
My son played on some really good USSSA teams from around Des Moines. He was probably about 9, and we were getting ready to roll a team from Bettendorf. About 4 innings in, we’re trying to figure out why we can’t hit off this damn fat kid on the mound!?!
That fat kid was Joey Van Wetzinga.

His dad Rusty was a heck of a football player in high school, at Augustana, and for the Steamwheelers.
Looks like his older brother is an incoming freshman FB for us too. Good football family.

Finished 7th in 3A heavyweight class as a sophomore.
Yep, I believe Rusty was All-State in three different sports at PV … football, wrestling and baseball.
Class of 2025. Position?...TBD. Total guess on my part..he comes in at DL...ends up following in the footsteps of Jones, Liddle,Linderbaum, etc...He did mention that he prefers the DL though.
