2025 Vacation Plans

Enjoy. I live near D.C.

I'll probably go to Pennsylvania for a long weekend in the spring. That's it.

CSB.

Let's move on to something more pleasant, shall we. What are y'all's 2025 Vacation Plans? My middle daughter is stationed at NSA-W, so we're going to spend the week of Thanksgiving in D.C. getting a personalized tour. ...probably a beach trip over the summer.

What about my fellow HBOTers?
Believe it or not, I'm going to Panama in 3 weeks. I'm hoping Trump has that country taken over by then!

Will start with doing some spring training during spring break. I have a lot of work travel planned this year (San Antonio, Boston, Colorado Springs, Washington DC, et al). Trying to figure out the family trip for the summer. I want to make the ASG in Atlanta and have a hotel close to Truist Park, but tickets are damn expensive.

San Antonio!? What month? Also, CO Springs is one of my favorite places!

Mostly shorter trips planned so far. Colorado over Labor Day to see old friends and the no pics brother and his family, will see the Cubs while there. Visiting sisters in the Bay Area in April for a 4 day weekend and probably meet them for camping trip in NorCal this summer. Visiting parents and brother around Iowa game in November when the Ducks come to Kinnick (I live in Oregon and root for the Ducks 2nd and I know some of the coaches). Will definitely do at least one 4-5 day float on the lower Deschutes in late September to swing flies for steelhead. Probably another Midwest trip this summer unless my parents make it out to Oregon late Spring.

Fly fishing and beach stuff in way southern Mexico (we fish 10 miles from Belize) January or February 2026, as I didn't make it there or Cuba this year for the first time since 2019

Riding various Giro d'Italia routes. Indulging nightly in food and too many drinks with the no pics. Rinse repeat.

Have another expedition lined up that will take me back East.

Usual stuff in America. National Parks, bike rides, stuff like that.
Wife is still recovering from foot surgery. We still have to get her other foot done, then BOTH of mine. Hoping by the end of 2026 we've got "new feet" so we can get back to mountain biking, hiking, etc. We love the outdoors and CO is our playground! Wanting to hit Jackson Hole at some point.

Wife and I are still kicking around what to do this year; a few years ago we decided to start taking a nice trip roughly every six months (one in early summer, one around Christmastime). Last year we went to Italy in the summer, and Quebec right after the new year.

Places under consideration right now are Portugal, Switzerland, England/Ireland, California; maybe a ski trip next winter, not sure where we'd go but probably Colorado.
Also in the running would be to have our sons complete their SCUBA cerifications and do a dive trip with them, likely to Roatan.

Start making up for lost time as soon as you can. We're not getting any younger! I know the tetons like the back of my hand. Let me know if you want some hints on hikes when you're ready.

Where at in Oregon are you? My friend’s family has a place north of Newport Beach. She did her graduate school at Oregon and her doctorate at U-Dub.

Absolutely! My DC daughter has put in for Base of Preference back here to Lackland. Hoping she gets back here next year...our son will be 12 and can stay with big sis and the wife and I can get back to traveling! We love to travel.

Way southern Oregon (almost Cali). Newport is a nice area they don't get near as much heat or smoke as we get in the summer, although the whole summer on the Oregon coast would be kinda strange as it basically never gets over 70 degrees and lots of days that are only 60.

Playa next week (can not arrive soon enough with this weather). Munich in March (great flight deal). Youngest's college graduation in Seattle in June. Looking at a Madeira trip in early September. Need to plan some more stuff!

Heading to southern California for spring break in March, few days at Disney but mostly just enjoying some warmer weather

Then we'll do our annual beach trip to Florida (gulf side) right after school gets out, typically Tampa area as it super convenient from Moline.

I'm really kicking around the idea of taking the family to Japan in 2026 so I might start making plans for that soon

Medellin once a month for long weekend getaways. Already did a week in Breckenridge. NOLA for Mardi Gras. Destin for a week in late July. Edinburgh in early July. Probably hit up Cartagena, Santa Marta, and San Andres for a few days each. Managed 20 trips last year, hoping to do more this year. Ideally a trip every other weekend.

We are going to Belgium, the Netherlands and Paris in May.

My dad was a part of the Battle of the Bulge. His tank destroyer was hit. Everyone in it was either killed or ran away except for him. He was blinded and deafened. He was taken prisoner and a German doctor brought back most of his eyesight and hearing.

We are going to start in Amsterdam and see the tulips and visit a friend who is a professor at a Dutch University. Then we are taking a quick trip to Paris for two nights to see the fixed up Notre Dame. We have been in it numerous times but it was always rather dark because of the hundreds of years of burning candles to light it up. The videos we have seen show a sparkling clean interior that we are eager to see.

Then to Brussels and Bruges. Looking forward to the chocolate, especially the hot chocolate.

Then, the impetus for the trip, heading over to Bastogne to check out the Battle of the Bulge historical sites. My younger brother has been there and says that the museum there is the best he has ever been to.

Just got back from Vegas.
7 day cruise from Miami to Virgin Islands, Dominican, and Bahamas in a couple of weeks.
Considering Montreal, Belize, Key West ad DC later this year.

My Dad was in the BofB as well. 2nd Armored Division. What a miracle for your Dad, and how blessed that was for him.
