2026 Recruiting: Colin Rice + Other Offers, Prospects & Commits (Ben McCollum era)

I don't follow high school sports because my kids are too young/by the time they get to HS Waukee will likely be on its 4th HS, but I should bring them out for a game this winter and see what Colin is capable of.

Good to see Ben out recruiting in-state kids. With the mass exodus from the previous roster it will be interesting to see the mix of portal to high school players as he builds for the future. He has a younger staff that should relate well to high school kids.

Are there any other top high school kids in Iowa to consider?

Was really asking if Iowa was still committed to him.

It appears the feeling is mutual.

From that story posted above:

Shabazz has elected to stick to his commitment, wanting to play for newly hired head men's basketball coach, Ben McCollum.

"I wanted to stay with my commitment because I’m all about winning," Shabazz told Hawkeye Beacon. "Playing for a winning coach and being around winners is what I’m about."

Hawks are sitting in a good spot.

I follow a lot of high school ball in Iowa, and Coon is a good one. Another kid to keep your eye on is 6-11 junior Cael LaFrentz from Decorah, whose father, Raef LaFrentz, was a starter/star at Kansas and played in the NBA. And Shabazz, who as a sophomore led Davenport Assumption to the 3A championship, is a very smooth guard and one of the top defensive players in the state. I've seen them all play in person.

Interesting that, as of now, Rivals shows Cael with no offers, with Iowa & Nebraska showing interest.
