2028 J. Guy Commits to Stanford

Dang Iowa really needs to keep tops studs in state as it is easier to recruit them to Iowa and top recruits not in state....

If there are any Bettendorf people here that could give some info about what happened with that program this year it would be great. It sounds like Guy got benched for the last several games, Weber was hated, and they ran him out of there. Guy transferring out - back to Clinton? Not sure what McCorkle is going to do. McCorkle shouldn't have transferred out of North. These dads need to get out of the freaking way. I was told by another coach that Guy's dad is a lot like Joens from City High.

That is far future stuff. So many moving pieces these days, who knows the landscape by then.

Bright side for Iowa: they won't have to spend further time or resources on the recruitment the next few years, but could quickly get back in should it ever open up again because of the proximity---meanwhile evaluating changing needs.

You mean like that football player who committed to Iowa, then to Alabama, then to Iowa, then to Alabama? LOL

If players don't want to play for Iowa, good riddance. Plenty of other players do. And this stuff of kids "committing" three years early, well, like I mentioned about the football player. Good luck with that.

Following recruiting has always been silly, IMHO, but it's especially useless in the NIL era. Plenty of other things to worry about, things that actually matter.

Not from Bettendorf, A poster on another board said she walked off the court and left in the 4th Qtr of a game and didn’t say anything to her coaches. Said the reason she did it was because she had to catch a flight to go on a recruiting visit to Texas. No idea if true just repeating what was posted.

On the surface this is pretty puzzling. Only 4 of the Top 60 in the 2026 class have committed, so a 2028 commit is very early. An early commit to Stanford is especially unusual because of its high academic standards. There's no real way to know whether a freshman will meet them.

Plus Stanford basketball just had its worst season since 1987 and is stuck in a conference where most of its opponents are 3 time zones away.

As others have said, the positive here is Iowa can focus on other targets and if she ever decommits and Iowa still has interest it won't be too hard to get back involved with her recruitment.
