Fluidity.

That's the word I would use to describe the difference between last year's team and this year's team.

There just seems to be a fluidity to the offense that wasn't there in the years past.

They're definitely gonna have to rely more on attacking the basket and finishing shots inside the arc because this team just lacks the height and shooting depth to be an inside-outside team like they've been in the past.

But I like what I'm seeing so far, even if the overall talent isn't quite there yet in terms of labeling this team a contender.

I can’t wait to see the team against Virginia and some other tough teams so I feel more confident about any predictions….that said, these games against lesser competition are like badly needed developmental practice for guys like Rebraca, Ulis, PS, Kris, Tony, etc…

When conference play gets here we’re going to need them fully prepared.

If they can consistently make three pointers, they'll surprise some people. We have athletes that can slash. Have to keep the defenses honest by knocking down threes or they'll just sag back or play zone to stop penetration.

I've said it numerous times but JBo is the biggest key to the season. As he goes, I think the team will go. Sandfort could fill that role as well.

Keegan's gonna Keegan, PMac is gonna Keegan light, and the rest of the team will fill various roles.

I agree. So far it's been a fast moving, fluid offense. Last year, the ball would slow down or stop with Garza, JBo or Connor. A lot of trying to get the ball deep with Garza. And, why not? POY.

This year's team doesn't have a POY. We won't see everyone standing around waiting for the "star" to make the play.

Shooting, low turnovers and inside defense will tell the tale of a team that could be a real handful vs. really good teams vs. just a "competitive" team.

Think, if only last year's team more closely resembled this year's team, which there's no reason it shouldn't have.

Most of the athleticism and defensive ability that we'll enjoy this season, was present last season, and left completely dormant.

That team didn't come close to rounding out. Oh well, I'll probably always remain mad about the UNLV game too. Onto this season. Should be a fun one

Nothing can really be determined until they play a real team. There is more versatility on this year's team, but last year had two guys on it who have actually played in NBA games so far this year. Virginia will not let Iowa do whatever it wants on offense, same for Illinois, Purdue and other Big 10 teams.

But the growth potential for this year's team is there. How good can Murray be? Can Patrick McC be a consistent 3-point shooter? Going to be fun to get answers those questions.

Totally agree. That fluidity goes out he door against well coached, talented teams. They'll limit our transition points and force us into a half court game and pack the paint. So far this year, 37.7% of our fg attempts are three pointers, good for 194th in the nation. We're 81st in the nation with a 38.8% 3pt%. I think we'll be marginally successful but there will be lots of scoring droughts.

All this discussion and people really thinking getting to the Big Dance will be a great thing. And yet they are bitching about the football team with an 8-2 record. If the basketball team would be in the top 3 in the B1G at the end of the season than these same people will be complaining we can't win it all. They love to BITCH...

Still think the Hawks will soar (couldn't resist the cliché) in 21-22-more so in 22.

Iowa has a pretty well stocked roster. Not much depth in the middle but pretty good every where else.

I will give you one simple reason why - Luka Garza. He was a generational talent that they had to build their offense around.
