I think this years team is vastly improved compared to last year. 2 players still have not played due to injury and illness. Should be a fun year!

Where is the comparison? We supposed to magically recall the box scores from the 3 games & average at the stats for the players that are the same? Seems like you are missing a large chunk of the data analysis claimed on the thread title...

no I think the one person last years team had that this years team doesn't
Baer the glue player, the leader off the bench, also last year the stats for Cook before the surgery. this season Baer is out with a injury and Cook is healthy again.
when does Baer get back?

then my guess would be around the 1st weekend in Dec if not right after Thanksgiving weekend.

how long does it take to recover from Mono?
Couple days ago Fran said that he expects Connor to be back in shape and playing in 3 weeks. He said he'd be over the mono in 2 more weeks but take another week to get back in shape

thanks was not how much the mono would hurt him physically
so we might see him in time at the earliest is the Indiana game and in time for the Drake game at the latest. good this will allow him to get back in shape for the BT season to go full out.

This differs on every case.

My son had mono this summer. He lost 15 pounds in four weeks, and it took him nearly 3 months from diagnosis to feel like himself again.

Some kids are able to play through it, though that is really rare.

A 3 game comparison between the two teams isn't entirely fair as we played Seton Hall last year. I went back anyway to compare shooting numbers.

2 point %: 2016 - 54.9%, 2017 - 60.0% (+5.1%)
3 point %: 2016 - 38.4 %, 2017 - 43.7% (+5.3%)
FG%: 2016 - 48.1%, 2017 - 53.0% (+4.9%)
Adjusted FG%: 2016 - 56.0%, 2017 - 62.3% (+6.3%)

It's also interesting to note that only two B1G teams rank in the top 100 nationally in 2 point % and 3 point %. Those teams are Iowa and Purdue who both rank in the top 50 in each. The competition isn't equal across the board. It's a small sample size. Still interesting to look at.

Sorry for the confusion. The post was not really about the stats. More comparing who the starters were from last year vs this year. Last year, Iowa's starting point guard has transferred, Baer is out with injury and one starter is coming off the bench. With the exception of Baer, Iowa has improved its starting lineup this year.
