Michigan State has a new coach this year! Bless your heart, Tom Minkel. The current head coach is Roger Chandler, who was Minkel's assistant. Both of Chandler's assistants are new this year, former MSU wrestler Chris Williams...who had been a head coach at a small college. The "name" assistant is Wynn Michalak, a former excellent wrestler for Central Michigan and who was a volunteer coach at Illinois for the past 4 years (remember Isaiah Martinez ...yeah Michalak coached him.)
MI State has one starter that qualified for the NCAAs last year, Javier Gasca.
You could call it a building year...if you want.
Currently Michigan State is 2-4 in dual meets with wins over Bloomsburg and Lock Haven and losses to Nebraska, Princeton, Drexel and Minnesota. The loss to Minnesota was only 20-17 due to MI State winning 2 of 3 matches between unranked wrestlers.
