Here's how I think the final placements will be for SEP and FD:

106: N/A
113: FD 1st. (should be an interesting semis with Bennett vs. Biscoglia. Once again we're denied watching two nationally ranked wrestlers meet on Saturday night).
120: FD 1st, SEP 2nd.
126: FD 4th, SEP 1st
132: FD 8th, SEP 1st
138: FD 1st, SEP 2nd
145: SEP 1st
152: FD 2nd
160: N/A
170: SEP 2nd
182: SEP 5th
195: SEP 4th
220: N/A
285: N/A

SEP: 1st, 1st, 1st, 2nd, 2nd, 2nd, 4th, 5th (8 placewinners)
FD: 1st, 1st, 1st, 2nd, 4th, 8th (6 placewinners)

Initially I thought FD could win earlier in the season. It doesn't help that their 106 quit the team and was rated 5th for most of the year. That would have given them a fighting chance. They were able to get points out of several other wrestlers that didn't place and good bonus points from the hammers but the void at 106 is too much now.

SEP should hold on to win and FD should be able to hold off WDMV. It could get interesting if Biscoglia defeats Bennett though.

Valley has 7 wrestlers remaining. 4 on the championship side.
#2 Oldham is in the consolation
#5 Hughes-Reilly has to face Teske
#2 Stotts should make the finals
#7 Brown has a good shot at 4th
#1 Shapiro should win it
#3 Corbin should finish at his ranking
#1 Lombardi should win it

Valley: 1st, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 3rd, 4th, 5th (7 placewinners)

Big one..

Semifinal - Kyle Biscoglia (Waukee) 45-2 won by decision over Drew Bennett (Fort Dodge) 40-1 (Dec 6-3)

Wriedt looked pretty sluggish earlier today. Looked happy to take a 5-1 win where both wrestlers did not do much other than push and shove. The City High kid is pretty decent but the two stall points could have gone either way.

Could be a toss up since Lombardi and Wriedt are 1-1 against each other this year. Toss up if wrestled like a heavywreight match like two last match ups or Wriedts match earlier today.

I saw a 2A match earlier where 2 points were awarded on a roll through where Joe Kelly WL was on his back for less time than Brands. He would have lost the match w the other ref.

Bennett has been the Sorensen of Iowa HS wrestling. He just can't get by Biscoglia when it matters. Tough draw to run into an opponent like Biscoglia in the semis two years in a row.

Doesn't help that they face each other multiple times during the regular season. Bennett looked like he had gained the upper hand in the series, but Biscoglia was able to craft his way to a win at State. Unfortunate.

Yant is pretty tough. Lara vs Brands should be a great final. The first match was very tight. The second one Lara started strong and faded late in the 3rd. We'll see if he has the tank to hang with Brands tomorrow.

I definitely think Lara could win, he's been pinning his way to the Finals so I think he'll be fresh. More like the 1st match and beginning of the 2nd match mashed together will be what this match ends up. I see an 8-6 win for Cayd, however I am very biased on this as I train in Fort Dodge. So, grain of salt and all that stuff.

Any chance we ever see Ayala back in a Dodger singlet? That left a big hole this year.

Last year was the quarters, maybe next year they can wrestle in the finals.

One of good friends/training parter was in the room last week-ish and talked with one of their coaches. Apparently, "Cowboy" as they call him and a few of his friends tried to "jump" an older kid and all hell broke loose... He just needs to stick with his mat family instead of these other punks, he does have the support of the coaches and teammates though. So I'm hoping it's just a young kid making a young kid mistake and turns it around.

Looks like SE Polk has the title locked up again. 147.5 to 100 for Fort Dodge after the semifinals.

Definitely locked up now. Remaining point scorers I see as:

FD:
Bennett: 2 wins for 3rd
Teske: 1 win for 1st
Lockner: 1 win for 4th
T. Lara: 1 win for 1st

SEP:
Brown: 1 win for 1st
Devos: 1 win for 1st
Barnes: 1 win for 1st

Best case scenario FD could also have Ross win for 8th and C. Lara beat Brands.

Last year was the quarters, maybe next year they can wrestle in the finals.

On top of that, he had to sit out his freshman year stuck behind Teske. Hopefully works out and he can win a title next year. Best wrestler I've seen recently at state that hasn't won one.

Would have been an awfully quick 2 count in the Yant / Brands match.

I just watched the replay of the Tavian Rashed vs Gavin Babcock match. I have no idea what Rashed tried to do in the third period. He had the match well in hand leading 4-1 and tried a very risky move that put him on his back.

Here are the photos right before Rashed got himself pinned.

From my understanding much of the crowd believed he was stalling his way to a win through the 3rd.
Nelson pushed the pace for two plus periods. WSR wrestler scored by taking advantage of his agressiveness. By backing up getting him to come in and using slide bys. Why would you contine to do so when that's your opponents offense.

Yeah and I was being facetious as I did not think it was points in the Kelly match either. It was a bad call in the Kelly match but did not have bearing on the outcome. Just a crappy call but making the point that Brands was on his back longer than Kelly.

Is the middle ayala a 7th or 8th grader? He's very very good.
