Sorry to bother you, but you're always very knowledgeable and helpful with these sort of things...

I have a week of vacation coming up June 19-27 and we have no good ideas of where to go. I'm looking for suggestions.

My wife and I have 3 daughters ages 9, 8 and 6. We live in Chattanooga, TN. We are NOT very "outdoorsy" (camping etc)... The girls like to swim.. we like beaches... we like places that have lots of family activities.

I'm not looking to spend a butt-load on this vacation (meaning like I'd assume a Disney vaca would be a "butt-load") but I'm not afraid to spend a bit. We did Destin a couple years ago.. loved it, but looking to try another place.

Any thoughts?? Thank you in advance.

She focuses more on Mexican/Carribbean resorts. She may know someone who can help you.

Are you looking to fly or drive? Outer Banks, Hilton Head Island, Rehoboth Beach, Jacksonville/St. Augustine, Clearwater.

Okoboji??? I mean it's a nice little lake and all, but it's very overpriced and gets really crowded from mid-Juine through mid-August. For the $$$ you would spend there you could go places far nicer with way better hotels, dining options and beached/pools. Now, if you plan to stay in Iowa and want to hit up a Lake... Okoboji is a great place.

Thanks for the input Joel and Wendy. Though we can't vacation back in Iowa b/c our parents would expect a visit.. :)

Wendy, have you personally been to any of those places? If so, any personal suggestions? I'm not opposed to flying. Only problem with flying is that tickets for 5 people can add a significant cost to the trip. I'm really just looking for ideas here though which you've already given me! Thanks!

I've not been to Outer Banks or HHI. Find a beach house to rent for the week (or at least some place that has a kitchen). The kids would like Rehoboth...there's a boardwalk, arcade, one of those old timey photo places, candy shop, ice cream, Dogfish Head brewery/restaurant. Nage is a great restaurant...more of a date night place, though you could go a bit early and they'd welcome the kids I'm sure. You'll likely see dolphins from the beach.

Head over to Warchant (Florida State's equivalent to HROT) for advice on Florida destinations. I've been to the ones I mentionrd, but it's been a while.

Going to clearwater beach for a 2nd time with my family, 42 of us go. Ages range from 1 all the way to 35 for us grandkids and great grandkids. Fun for everyone and endless stuff to do. Last year we went in August this year we're trying late June. I really enjoy Clearwater beach. Been to Pensacola and Destin as well in Florida and clearwater is way better.

Thanks everyone. You've given me some places to research

Sorry, I've been under the weather today so haven't been on. If you run
into a problem feel free to shoot me an email. Another place you can
check out is Jekyl Island. I had a friend go there and really enjoyed it.

I personally loved Clearwater Beach. But having 3 sons I spend less going to an all inclusive in Mexico. LOL! You could also look into a cruise. Royal Caribbean are generally well priced (compared to Disney) and good for families. And you are probably driving distance to many ports.

We love the Outer Banks. If you go up that way you can also check out the Lost Colony of Roanoke nearby and a little further north is the Yorktown Battlefield on the peninsula. Even crossing Hampton Roads (Civil War history) is fascinating as you take a combination bridge tunnel across the bay.
