4,600,000 government credit cards, $40B spend in FY24

That calculates to an avg of $8,700 per card per year which isnt outrageous as long as their charges are legit.

Are they legit?

Trump just spent $10 to 20 million each time they say to go to the super bowl and daytona.

Hell, I usually charge about $17,000 a year because I dont carry much cash.

Interestingly the Defense Department has about half of those accounts.

Another example of PF getting sucked in by the headline. Hilarious.

Govt always travels on full fare tickets on airlines (discounted rates of course). But still typical to see a government employee on the same flight as you paying 3-4x as normal people.

I understand why there may be a need for full-fares, but in probably 90% of the case (travel to meeting, travel to a conference) they are not needed.

DOGE needs to re-negotiate some travel contracts.

The Defense Travel Management Office is not paying 3-4x what normal travelers pay. Their required use programs, like City Pair, save money.

We moved to a charge card system for military personnel to streamline the pay order process. It’s a good thing.

I’ll add that the VA buys pharmaceuticals and hospital supplies with charge cards as well. They moved to a Just In Time system to reduce waste. Both are sourced at negotiated prices from Prime Vendors and payment is reconciled the same day to minimize transaction fees.

So between the VA and DoD, that’s $30 billion of the use.
