I think it just took forever to get everyone in the stadium and to their seats. That's why the pictures at the end of the meet look so much more full. Marc Morehouse tweeted a picture of the line to get into the stadium and it looked ridiculous. Not enough gates open and then the ticket snafu caused a lot of delays in people getting to their seats.

Sure, there were minor glitches. This has never been done before. Overall, bravo. I believe it was a huge success. The flames by the Iowa tunnel, how cool was that? Hopefully we swayed some recruits today.

A cluster just to get to your seats. They add half of kinnick blocked off. Took 20 min from west concourse to reach sec 109. It was a joke

Yeah I guess. But never seen Kinnick that bad before, been going to football games since the 80s. I'm not the only one, even the police were like WTF is going on here. Lol

Thanks for posting the pic. Please post pics in here if you have them or as they become available. This is: So. Freaking. Awesome.

Someone should let Cael know that this is what actual butts in seats looks like. I remember his farce two years ago had a lot of empty seats. This was such an awesome event that words can't describe it. We had 20 in our group including several first timers and they had a blast. Iowa made more fans today.

We went in at 1030 and strolled to our seats. Lots of football fans bought tickets and came in three or four matches late when they heard all the noise from us winning. Lots of whining on here about an event that was first-rate.

Kinnick could originally fit 53,000. That was before North and South end zone seats were built and before the seat spacing was widened during the recent renovation. My guess is that the East and West sidelines now hold about 48,000 total. If you took the people out of the South end zone and off of the field, it looks like you would just about fill up the sideline sections.

Having said that, people probably weren't sitting as close to each other as they do during football games. I think they made the announcement at or just before intermission and it looked like the crowd had more people later in the meet. So my best guess would be 45,000+ in attendance.

Someone next to me said the first 300 students got to sit in the bleachers on the field.

Yes, all students on the field. That has been known since tickets could be ordered. Given north end zone was empty, that takes 10k of seats and then it started angling up from about 30 line to north corners so people could see mat

Some what relative...The U of Iowa Hospital has areas in the new children's wing to be able to watch football games.

So glad I wasn't in those bleachers, the sun would have been brutal.

Can't say enough good things about this event, first rate production - awesome! And Sammy Brooks, wow, way to kick off a NC run!

Very proud to be a Hawk today!

Go Hawks!

Most of the seating troubles were due to the fact that about 10,000 people waited till 10:45 to go find their seats and then it was packed. I walked right in at 10:20 and straight to my seat with no trouble at all.

It didn't help that they didn't have enough shuttles running from West High. Granted, I was running late (serves me right for checking in with work), but when I got there around 10:15, there were easily 200+ people waiting in line for the shuttle (and no sign of a shuttle) and who knows how many walking. Of course, that wouldn't have mattered a whole lot had there not been a ticket/seating fiasco to cause a bottleneck.
