5 guys who apparently deserve most of the credit for last year's success

Blythe, Lomax, HKC, T Smith and Jim Reid.
You forgot the two most important.
1. The schedule makers
2. Lady luck. FG against Pitt, Miracle plays by CJ against the clowns, Tommy Armstrong thinking he was supposed to throw to us, Wisconsin completely handing us the game, and even catching some breaks against Indiana.

Last year we could have just as easily lost 4-5 games in the regular season. We got all the bounces. This staff is still as inept as ever.

This ! Some of you can deny it all you want, but NOT playing OSU, UM, MSU, and maybe Ped State from the East had as much to do with your smoke and mirrors season as anything else. Luck and breaks only last for so long as lack of talent eventually shows up as even Sparty is starting to find out.

Everyone here knows the schedule was weak! That's the one thing Iowa can't control, as far as the BIG schedule is concerned. The coaching is more of a problem than talent....this staffs inability to recognize play makers has been a constant as of late too!

Compare our schedule to Wisconsin

They played LSU, MSU, Michigan, and have OSU next week.

We've played a bunch of nobodies.

You don't get better playing cupcakes.
We all hate to admit it but Cowherd's analysis has been spot on.

Ya the schedule was favorable, but last year was a much better football team. They weren't gutted on the ground defensively and they didn't make mistakes. Were they the greatest? No, but you had to play sound football all day to beat Iowa because they weren't gonna beat themselves. This year has been the exact opposite and a complete nightmare.

Last year was all a product of luck and an all time easy schedule, can't believe some people still don't get it.

So true. If NDSU misses that field goal or they don't call the holding penalty.. or if they caught the face mask yesterday there's a dang good chance Iowa is 5-0. That's just the way it goes and last year most of that stuff went Iowas way!

Also I'm not saying it's a good thing. Those two games shouldn't have come down to that!

It's not just the schedule. We were better last year, especially on defense. And against Northwestern, we ran over, through, and around a Wildcat team that was better than the one we just lost to.

Agree, not just the schedule because the schedule has been very soft so far and we already have two losses.

Defense was definitely better last year stopping the run. Tevaun Smith was a receiver that could get open and had good hands. CJ was healthy and running at least to start the season last year. Wasn't Meyers at DE last year?

This year's schedule is easier than last year's schedule. We've played 4 bad teams and NDSU whose qb from last year is now starting in the NFL. If it's just about the schedule, we'd be 5-0 right now. Getting owned on the offensive and defensive lines is not about luck.

We had some breaks last year, but other than Stanford were we ever out rushed by 200 yards or even 100 yards like this year? I doubt it. There is way more to our record this year being worse than last year than bad breaks.

Spot on, Iowa has a play maker in D. King and the staffs stubbornly refuse to utilize his play making ability.
