5 UConn just went down to 12 New Mexico St

Kentucky is in OT against 15 seed Saint Peters.

This stuff happens every year…
Yea, but we are on the shitty end every year. I keep waiting for "the team no one expected to make a run to make a run". Instead we are a 3 point shooting team that doesn't like the ball in the tournament that matters.

I would trade Fran for Alford in a heart beat. Just link Fran doesn't miss shots Alford didn't rape anyone.

No thanks. I’ll take Fran over Alford ANY DAY.
There are a lot of coaches I would trade Fran for. Alford is not one.

And 4 less tourney appearances and 3 less tourney wins…

Fran also rebuilt the program after Lickliter ruined it.

Fran has the program in a better place than it ever was under Alford.
In 5 less years.

Lick wasn't even here long enough for his first recruiting class to graduate. He is a scapegoat.

False.

St Peter's coach looking for a big ten job?

hmmmm..... What if Fran packs his bags because some hater fan's on HR suggest getting a sweet16 once every 12 years ought to be attainable...clearly Iowa fan base unreasonable...might be hard to get a replacement at $3million/yr

What exactly is false?

The program WAS absolute garbage when Fran took over. You can argue who was more at fault for that, Alford or Lickliter, but you can’t argue that it was an absolute terrible basketball program when Fran came here. The program was at an all time low.

This program is not in a better spot "than it ever was under Alford" as previously claimed.

We have mid major level guards, no true "5", and a bunch of shooters who can't shoot the ball that is used for the tournament.

I mean..We’ve finished 6th or better in the b1g 9 of the last 10 years. We’ve made the NCAA tourney 7 of the last 9 years, including 4 straight years. Would I love some more tourney success? Of course I would. I was 9 the last time I saw an Iowa sweet 16 run. But is there a coach out there, that is attainable, that would do a better job than Fran has done? I’m sure there is…But is anyone confident Barta would find that coach? I’d say it’s much more likely we hire a dud that runs the program into the ground than hiring a coach that has more success here than Fran has had. Also, any younger coach that has more success at Iowa than Fran has had, is likely jumping ship to a better program first chance they get.

I too have voiced my concerns with Barta making any hiring decisions for any program.

I'm over the "if they are great they will leave". Give me the time they are great at Iowa and I'll understand them leaving. We have some of the longest tenured coaches in the NCAA it's an excuse.

I agree with the first part. I don't know about the second part. Barta has done some stupid stuff but we also are doing consistently well in almost every sport.

C'mon man. We're in the Big Ten.

Damn.

Wish my enjoyment of things didn't revolve around the Hawks.

Missed some damn good upsets, looking like.
Aw jeez, some great games were played after that. I watched nonstop until about 20 minutes ago. Got tired and couldn't look at the TV anymore.

I guess its different if the Hawks aren't part of the Big Dance to start with, but I enter NCAA Tournaments all full of excitement because I know the Hawks are playing in it.

But when the Hawks lose, especially like the one today when the expectations to reach (at least) the 2nd weekend were quite high, my excitement exits with them.

Its one of my major flaws, placing vast amount of my enjoyment of sports on my favorite teams.

Anytime games are played in any sport, half the teams lose. But why does it always have to be IOWA that is in the losers' half in the first round of the NCAA tournament?
