6 Hawkeyes on Monday Night Football

Mabin has only 53 defensive snaps this year, but PFF rates him very well in limited time.

I'll be watchin' this one and hoping CJ can engineer an upset for the 49ers. I hate to see the GB Hawkeyes lose, but somebody has to. And it is awesome to see all the Iowa alums in this game, certainly a valuable recruiting tool. The road to Monday night football goes through Iowa City.

Gotta believe, despite all of the facets/talent beyond his control, this game dictates the long term future of Beathard in the league. High profile MNF game and a HoFer quarterbacking the other team. If he shows he belongs, can compete and elevate the 49ers above all their injuries, it will go a long way in the type of perception that keeps the QB paychecks coming. Good dose of irony that his Hawkeye brothers on the other team will play a part.

I don't think so. NFL GM's do a lot more than just watch TV. If CJ can play, they will find him.

Unless it's one of my favorite teams playing, I usually cheer for the team with the most Hawkeyes on it. Not sure what to do tonite except enjoy the player intros when "Iowa" is mentioned 6 times!

I'd like to believe all decisions come down to that, but if there is negative public perception regarding a player's ability, I think it impacts what GM's will ultimately do regarding high profile/money positions. More leeway as a backup, but with new players entering the league every year, new hotness sometimes looks better than what is in the fridge. Certainly, solidifying himself there in SF is the best bet, and most attainable goal, but if CJ goes toe-to-toe in this game, or can do something special, he could get the attention that leads to bigger things.

I think "we" know he can play, so no argument there. I'm absolutely rooting for him to succeed on every down. I hope he plays his best game tonight.

Some supposed Power 5 conference teams don't have any of their players drafted. Hard to believe but sometimes a supposed major college football team will go three or four or five years without a player selected in the NFL draft.

That;s not all bad. if the team of questionable talent rallies around their stars who later get cut as free agents.

My recollection is that Mabin was always in good position, but like Moss he was a little slow early on reacting to and playing the ball, so gave up some plays. He continually got better (and was always solid against the run), but was dinged up most of his senior year. Anyone else remember it that way?

It would be lovely if the 49ers D didn't suck balls. I was up by 30 points in FF to start the night. Rodgers is going to have that by half.

I need a tender collarbone here.

Agreed. Most Hawkeye fans thought Mabin was a terrible player at Iowa, when he was actually above average.
Only dumb ones. Seriously, he was critiqued mercilessly here by ‘most’. Tells one how ya have to sift through threads, eh?

Mabin is getting beat like a drum late in this game. Pretty much going at him every play. Poor guy.

Nope. I am sure there are some people on here who will say he was in perfect position but just got victimized by perfect throws.

Blame 49ers for not putting Sherman on Adams the entire time. And for the penalty that gave the Pack a first down to extend the series.

I’m starting to wonder about the NFL on the calls they make for certain teams.

I’m guessing you were one of the guys ragging on him all the time here and don’t like those posters pointing out how stupid that was. I’m not sure anyone would say he didn’t get embarrassed the last two series. But something should be said that the guy is playing in a Monday Night game when about 1/3 of the board here said he didn’t deserve to start here.
