Residents in an Arlington, Texas neighborhood were shocked to see police in a six-hour-long standoff recently.
For six long hours, police evacuated the neighborhood, warning residents of a massive SWAT “standoff” they were having with someone on the 4100 block of Crestover Court.
There was just one problem… No one was even in the house for the entire duration of this “standoff.”
Officers say they were called to a domestic disturbance at about 12:45 p.m. They claim that a female at the residence told police that there was a man there with a gun who had threatened her.
She claimed that she “managed to escape” but warned the officer that the man was still inside the house, all by himself.
The SWAT team quickly assembled and went to the house. They warned them man repeatedly to come out of the house with his hands up. But he never seemed to heed their warnings. Police would later find out this was because they were talking to themselves for six long hours.
Once they got inside, SWAT officers told reporters that they “confirmed the man was not inside” the residence. But “confirmed” really covers over the fact that they had not thought he was absent at any time during that standoff.
They didn’t “confirm” anything. They “discovered” that they were wasting six hours talking to themselves and barking orders at the air, for a crime that may or may not have ever occurred.
Police say they have obtained an arrest warrant for the man, for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, which seems significantly more inflated than what the initial police report claims he was accused of: aggravated menacing.
The man has still not been located. Some neighbors have suggested he was never there that day in the first place and this entire scenario is being inflated by the police to cover up the fact that they were called on someone who was never even at home.
