For offensive lineman Cole Banwart, playing for the Hawkeyes has been a lifelong dream. This year, the 6-foot-4, 290-pound Banwart will get to live that dream as he reports for his freshman year at Iowa. We caught up with Banwart, who will wear #61 for the Hawkeyes, to talk about making the transition to college and much more.
Q: When do you make the move to Iowa City this summer?
BANWART: I will moving down to Iowa City June 12 and I will be starting classes and working out on June 13.
Q: What are you looking forward to in starting workouts with the team?
BANWART: I'm just looking forward to getting to know all of the guys and the coaches a little more and I am ready to start competing with some of the best guys in the country.
Q: What are your goals for your freshman year? Are you hoping to play or expecting to redshirt?
BANWART: The coaches have told me that I will probably redshirt, but I'm going to come in with the mindset that I will play and to earn a spot on the first or second team.
Q: What will it mean to you to walk out of the tunnel at Kinnick Stadium for the first time?
BANWART: It is going to mean a lot. Ever since I was a kid that was my dream to walk out having all the fans yell and scream.
Q: When you look back at everything, what was it about Iowa that made it the right place for you?
BANWART: For me, it was just a dream of mine to play there, but also right when I stepped through the doors it just felt like the right place for me.
