Yes, I know cases are skyrocketing in a few southern states. And they are slightly rising in others - though in many states the rise is easily explained by more testing. But as health officials tells us the rise is primarily among young people, whose mortality rate is about 20x smaller than older people, I think there is at least some room for cautious optimism; at least until the death rate starts to increase.

If we could stop talking about shutting everything down, and focus on wearing face coverings and convincing the minority of folks who are the greatest risk to be extra cautious, it would seem we could control this thing.

Football.

It needs to happen.

Wear masks. Everyone.

The challenge is the OPEN WIDE UP people seem to also be the ones that are now going all Karen on facial coverings and distancing, bunch of babies.

The people who will complain the most if football is canceled are likely the same ones that have actively chosen to practice zero safety precautions and they will blame everyone but themselves for it. If they could do us all a favor and just shoot themselves now so we can have a CFB season that would be great and I would consider it a favor to humanity.

Optimism? Arizona is talking about determining who gets care, we hit 50k new cases a day and people are focusing on when sports start instead of why we're the country where this thing is on fire....sure...optimism.

There will be a shortened pro football season, but there will be no fans in the stadium.

There will be no college football, at all. We still have significant numbers who want schools themselves closed down. College sports will not happen during the 2020/21 season. Best hope there is a vaccine by next summer or 2021/2022 is out, as well.

Very few people, even here in Florida where another new record for cases was set today, are talking about shutting down again. That is crap being spread by alarmist on both ends of the political spectrum for different reasons. Responsible reopening led by the government coupled with responsible activity by the populous is what most of us want. Here we're getting neither.

The NCAA better give Garza and JoBo an extra year of eligibility!

This is good news. Hopefully it stays this way and the young folks don't give it to their parents etc...

Agreed. I just don't see how college sports happens.

Once kids get back on campus, you will see even larger outbreaks in college towns then we are seeing now.

While I am mostly with you on keeping things open, I really do think we need to seriously consider shutting indoor bars down for a while. Bars that have the space can do outdoor patios with proper distancing. I really believe bar crowds are responsible for much of this recent spread.

I agree that bars should be shut down, and we should mask up.

Then instead of throwing a couple thousand dollars to everybody, help bar owners and employees through this period. It's unfair that people's livelihoods are being taken away; they need to be compensated.

Just curious why it's lies? In Georgia, testing is at an all-time high AND the rate of positive tests for one VERY LARGE, MULTI-HOSPITAL group was at 24% at the beginning of this week. It had been 7% a couple weeks before and 5% before that. Too bad the state doesn't produce these stats.
even the tests are all wrong. some false positives. 30+ strains and not all the tests for each strain. they want to lie in the media for panic. it's called "panic porn". they can keep us under their thumb better and control us by keeping us at home and cowering to their mask demands and mask shaming.

I agree, unfortunately there seems to be little we can do with the stubborn Karens and Todds. They're hell bent on doing what they want, cuz freedoms.

Holy crap. Pigs do fly!

I agree 100% with what you said. Close bars down (indoors) and give stimulus checks to bar owners and workers for the next three months. Then re-evaluate then.

Bars might not come back, I think a big part of the new normal is no bars, no indoor dining restaurants, we need to limit social gatherings.

But not the protests. Never that

This plus house parties are easier to contact trace, just use the e-invite that was used for the invite. :D

"Thank you for attending the party! Oh there is now a high likelihood you have the C19 and someone was also passing around the clap, better get double checked with the swab down the nose and up the peen.".

As long as the deaths and hospitalizations stay low we are way too quick to shut everything down and cancel sports.
I agree but I doubt it happens.

I think the media basically forces colleges to send kids home and the economy tanks around October.

I think we get back to normal in 2021 because it will be apparent the cure is worse than the disease. Vaccine or no vaccine.

Unfortunately, I agree. For so much talk about "listen to the science" and "decisions should be data based" most of the reactions have only involved listening to the frightening science and making decisions based on panic.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends in-person school for this fall, and lists all of the reasons online classes will create more harm than good. But do you see this mentioned in the media anywhere? And is it even influencing anyone's opinion?

Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, is now mandating people wear masks ON THE BEACH. Never mind that this environment is about as safe as can be - cases are up in some southern states, that is the loud headline every day, so they decided to virtue signal rather than be pragmatic.

I don't think the media has the ability to force anything. The fact that this is an election year is a much bigger driver IMO.

I absolutely believe the majority of the fear and panic is media driven. Every "news" story is a drumbeat of the most frightening possible information, while any positive news is ignored. It is 24 hours a day of constant, shrill, screaming, panic porn. It has to be influencing people.

This. Bars will come back.

Even if ~50% go under, that means great opportunities for business people to start or scoop up a bar on the cheap.
Bars will come back for sure. Dirt cheap rent and dirt cheap equipment will be available.
