7-day rolling average of deaths drops to 560 on July 1

I absolutely believe the majority of the fear and panic is media driven. Every "news" story is a drumbeat of the most frightening possible information, while any positive news is ignored. It is 24 hours a day of constant, shrill, screaming, panic porn. It has to be influencing people.
I cannot argue that those stories are out there but you heard about the recommendation from the AAP through the media, right? Those stories are out there too. If, and I know this is a HUGE IF, people would act responsibly and both sides would stop politicizing it, many of the horror stories would go away.

This guy simply believes life as we know it is over. He's completely gone. He doesn't think they aren't economically viable - he believes they should never again be allowed.

They aren’t economically viable, if they can adhere to social distancing guidelines, 6’ of space between all patrons that aren’t living in the same household, then they can be open. Tell me how many bars do you think can survive like that?

No those stories would not go away. Those stories are being used to push a political narrative

AOC recently tweeted that it is a small price to pay for businesses to close and the economy to be hurt by all of this if trump is defeated. She deleted the tweet shortly afterwards but it is out there if you Google it.

And Trump tweeted that he's the last warrior for refusing to wear a mask. Funny how you just ignore that. Millions more people take their cue from Trump than AOC.

Wow... They are ALL wrong? Does that mean if your test is positive you are really negative and if your test is negative you are really positive?
Dude, this was an OK thread until you started engaging OiT. Just ignore him, it’s pointless to try and reason with him and just derails the thread.

I agree but I doubt it happens.

I think the media basically forces colleges to send kids home and the economy tanks around October.

I think we get back to normal in 2021 because it will be apparent the cure is worse than the disease. Vaccine or no vaccine.
The media can’t force anyone to do anything. If government does make those decisions, it will be reported though.

The people who will complain the most if football is canceled are likely the same ones that have actively chosen to practice zero safety precautions and they will blame everyone but themselves for it. If they could do us all a favor and just shoot themselves now so we can have a CFB season that would be great and I would consider it a favor to humanity.

wow. advocating for suicide. (if even in jest). How compassionate. Totally normal and not at all uncool.

Unfortunately, I agree. For so much talk about "listen to the science" and "decisions should be data based" most of the reactions have only involved listening to the frightening science and making decisions based on panic.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends in-person school for this fall, and lists all of the reasons online classes will create more harm than good. But do you see this mentioned in the media anywhere? And is it even influencing anyone's opinion?

Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, is now mandating people wear masks ON THE BEACH. Never mind that this environment is about as safe as can be - cases are up in some southern states, that is the loud headline every day, so they decided to virtue signal rather than be pragmatic.

You were doing so good and then Run&Blade got you all fired up again. What happened to you wanting everyone to wear a mask? Now you're against it.

.

I heard this on NPR this morning and then saw an AP story on it. Last I checked, that is “the media.”

I guess its that or advocating for actively spreading a virus that we know will kill and permanently change the health of many. Totally cool of you being for killing others.

Not on the beach. The science tells us it is spread, primarily, indoors, with close, prolonged interaction among people outside of your household. The beach is none of those.

The number one way to get people to reject reasonable safeguards is to require unreasonable ones. Crap like this is as much responsible for bad behavior as Trump.

If you google it you’d learn it was fake news.

If HS football is cancelled I will be pretty upset. My son will be devastated losing his senior year. I think the baseball season is going very well so far, here in Iowa. Is there much difference between a player sliding into 2nd base while the defense applies the tag to a player being tackled? Or is it more about the fans and being in the bleachers? If it’s the latter, then limit who can attend the games and have designated seating. This can be done.

For the record, my entire family are mask wearers, with very little exception. I feel that the only way to get back to some sort of normalcy will be to wear a mask. To watch a football game live, sure I’d wear a mask, no problem.

That, and really stupid looking tan lines.

Tell the 40% of the people that think it is their constitutional right to not have to wear a mask in places that require masks that they don't have to and then when they complain and don't comply be willing to punch them right in the mouth.

This is fake news. There are websites that archive tweets (even deleted ones), and there is no such record of AOC ever making that tweet. I’m not sure what “media” source you got that one from, but you might want to reconsider using it in the future.

I don't buy this for a minute. There was a prom party in Bettendorf a couple weeks ago that resulted in 45 cases among the attendees and unknown numbers from them - and not a word of it in the media. Hopefully it will make it there soon and the hosts can be exposed for endangering the community.

I agree, unfortunately there seems to be little we can do with the stubborn Karens and Todds. They're hell bent on doing what they want, cuz freedoms.
Yeah. It’s not like this country was founded on the bedrock of individual freedom and liberty.

I'm not sure how that discounts the nature of media coverage and whether or not it has influenced people.

There needs to be a law limiting social gatherings, police should be able to issue significant fines to any party of more than 10 people. We need to drive real change.

Yeah. It’s not like this country was founded on the bedrock of individual freedom and liberty.
But those freedoms were never absolute. When your actions directly cause harm to another, that freedom ends. Maybe too simplistic but you have the freedom and liberty to own an fire a gun. You do not have the freedom to fire it at an innocent person.

It's an example where the media hasn't reported anything on it. I'm confident it's not the only one of it's kind. The notion that the media is playing this up just doesn't hold water.

Optimism? Arizona is talking about determining who gets care, we hit 50k new cases a day and people are focusing on when sports start instead of why we're the country where this thing is on fire....sure...optimism.
Because negative attitudes such as yours is so productive right? Fvcking Karen.

lol, we're leading the world in shitty responses and you people are talking about optimism and football. It's surreal.
We can't even get a majority of people to agree to wear masks because - freedom!!
I want some of whatever you all are drinking because that's some good kool-aid.
What I see is another lost year for my kids because our adults couldn't act like adults for 3 months like the rest of the GD world.

Except for the couple hundred thousand people who died from it. Their family members probably wouldn't agree with you.

I try really really hard to NOT wish some of you on here would get Covid.
