80 yards, 12 plays, 1:42 ... PSU-21, Iowa-19

Just watched that final PSU play again from last year. I was in Kinnick for that one, and it still hurts. It's still tough to believe the Iowa defense gave up that winning drive: 80 yards, 12 plays, and in only 1:42. And, of course, the topper is that Amani Hooker missed tipping that game-winning TD pass by the slimmest of margins. Look at it in stop action, and it couldn't have been more than a couple of inches...

Anyway, Hooker and the Hawkeyes have a great opportunity for redemption. Nothing can be done about the Wisconsin give-away this year or the PSU heartbreaker last year, but they can be pushed much farther back in the rear-view mirror with a win at State College on Saturday.

And I'm taking the Hawkeyes to make it happen: Iowa-42, PSU-14 or, as some might phrase it, "McSorley strikes out."

Ya, iowa d gave up a game winning 10 play, 88 yard, 4:43 drive to a wisconsin this a year too. Gotta be a concern when game is on da line. :)

Yeah if only Iowa had a clutch 4 qtr D like da clones have had last year and a half.....

9/9/17 7 plays 89 yards 1:52 game tying TD drive with a min left followed up 5 plays 25 yard GW TD in OT
11/11/17 3 plays 51 yards go ahead TD with 3:47 to play
11/25/17 10 plays 87 yards 1:55 GW TD

9/8/18 Down 3 12:21 left in the game give up a 13 play 83 yards TD drive that took 6:30
9/15/18 Down 7 10:54 left in game give up a 12 play 47 yards FG that took 7:52
9/29/18 9 plays 36 yards 3:12 GW FG

Perhaps if Iowa gets in that situation again, they'll know either not to blitz, or better yet, blitz the middle gaps to force McSorley outside.

When we blitzed from the outside corners, it was picked up and there was nobody in his face to influence what was a fairly quick throw.

The pass was to the middle of the field/endzone though so we either need to drop middle coverage and force him to pass from the pocket to the corner on such a play, or by blitzing in the middle, and hopefully generating a rush, it takes his focus away from where he wants to go, even if it's a quick release.

I've seen PSU run a similar play at least once or twice this year already, including the tying score against Appalachian State, who basically defended it the same way we did, except there was no near-tip by a safety or LB......

Was there also. So loud for that last drive. Place would have erupted had that last pass been deflected. Who knows how rest of season goes thereafter. Momentum is a funny thing.

I hope our DL is in the backfield all game long and every sack they get they do that stupid arm thing McSorely does....

That PSU drive was almost as painful as the MSU drive in the B1G Championship, but both were like being stabbed with a very dull knife. The D played it's guts out but it wasn't enough. Heartbreaking.:(
