87,000 New IRS agents!

Joy. I got into some hot water with them once when I had three kids in college at the same time and tax act had a question worded poorly.

IRS wanted me to send them course descriptions to prove they needed the books I had deducted.

please go after that shit and let the big dogs continue to his behind their walls.

I waited 3 focking years to close an estate because I couldn’t get an estate tax clearance.

There are millions of unprocessed returns sitting that they don’t have staff for.

I don’t know if 87,000 is the right number but the IRS is one of the most important agencies out there and it has been woefully understaffed for years.

Just about everyone should be elgibile to efile imo. It's nuts that there are this many individual returns outstanding in August.

Bingo!

Call me a cynic but if there was new legislation looking to hire a new "force" of individuals to crack down on those who may be cheating Social Security and other social welfare programs, the legislation would be hailed by the GOP as a "necessary means" to combat those who are cheating taxpayers.

I've written it here many times. I'll be the first in line with my last 3 years of returns and I'd bet good money that I'd be getting a refund because of how conservative I am with what is and is not a proper deduction.

Our federal taxes were 81 pages last year , i took a standard deduction and we file married. Should be fricking simple but it’s not.
Thankfully i don’t have a state tax in fla.

The legislation should have been to simplify the tax code. That would save the need for the cost of more agents, and actually helped fight inflation by saving the cost of filing returns by individuals and small businesses. First rule should be solving problems, not treating symptoms.

Funny how this is supposed to be some kind of burn. "All you rapists better watch out!!!" lol

You seem to be confused, my intent was not to "burn" anyone. Merely to inform, what is funny is your assumption on my post.

Maybe we need to build a tax code wall :).

I have long held the belief that if everyone paid the taxes they were supposed to pay, they could lower taxes for all of us. The practice of finding ways to avoid paying taxes and cheating the system has become far too prevalent in today’s society. My grandfather was a small business owner and took pride in paying his taxes(did not like paying them). He was part of the Republican Party that were WWII vets. That party unfortunately is long gone.

Pay a use tax on the items you buy and close the IRS. Get rid of this BS.

last year, irs randomly decided to reduce my tax refund and sent a letter of explanation that offered 3-4 broad categories as possible reasons. the letter went on to say that if i believed they were in error i could claim the whole refund but they might decide to audit. i could not reach a live agent to talk to, so i chickened and let them keep the money even though i still don't have a proper explanation. with these additional agents maybe they'll answer the phone again. either way, in light of this news, glad i wimped out.

The idea seems totally logical, but good luck getting Republicans to do anything like this.

Pandemic is proof of this. When people had the most questions, the IRS had to tell them to please not call.

Don't have a household income of over $400K (I realize I am a poor) and Biden said again that nobody would pay more taxes if they made less than $400K. Not sure why we need $80 Billion more in spending to go after the top 1% of taxpayers that will never pay anyway, but we've spent money worse over the past couple of years.

Make people pay federal income taxes monthly after they get paid instead of it automatically coming out and you would have 99% support to abolish the IRS.

I don’t understand why everything can’t be electronic and they just tell us what we owe.

they can pull in dependents and link their college tuition costs and all that crap.

the investment should be made to get to that point and then we would see some savings.
That's part of the funding as I understand it. Takes people to build those systems as well.

Leave it to the republicans to complain about a program designed to generate revenue, reduce the deficit and catch criminals.

Leave it to the democrats to promise to tax the rich and not.

you think it’s difficult to find bullshit promises from either side?

Doesn’t really address the issue I indicate. Someone has to review the returns still.

And if withholdings weren’t a thing, Americans would find a way to not pay as long as possible. It would be an accounting nightmare at the federal level. The government would be trying to figure out spending and programs without taxes actually being collected.

Republican voters, man, I tell ya. They latch onto every fear Ted Cruz throws at them.

Quit doing your own taxes.

Who’s telling you this BS? Wealthy Republicans are fighting against the Democrats so tirelessly about this why? Because the Democrats will try to make them pay taxes at a percentage of what the rest of us do.

Honestly they need 30,000-40,000 just to run normal operations. They are still over a year behind. 2nd is I think its going to be extremely difficult to fill that many positions. Thirdly, many people currently do not have enough fear about filing correct returns in my opinion.

Actually, I have very frank conversations with my accountant ever since I've been getting a K-1 instead of a W-2. I live a quite comfortable existence and if being conservative and cautious with deductions leaves me overpaying a bit, so be it. I consider it to be a decent insurance policy should I ever get notice that the IRS wants to see my financials.

a simpler tax code doesn't stop people from not reporting income or exaggerating expenses.
