Part 1.
A few thoughts on the 2016-17 wrestling season, borrowing from the Larry King Style of Journalism.
I'm glad to see Edinboro on the schedule for Iowa tonight. I'd like to see us wrestle in PA as often as we can, esp close to Kemerer's hometown. I was really excited to see Turk. As with any injury, I’m always nervous about returning and wrestling. Wishing for the best here. Turk’s injury did open the door for Topher Carton. I love what Topher represents. He was never “the man” at 141. Even in crazy lineups it was Gross, Grothus, Turk or Laux. Never Carton. And yet, he stayed worked hard and has taken advantage of the opportunity. Then post senior night he says, “I’d be the first one to get back in line and do it all again”. And speaking of getting one shot, Faraan Brantley, who last wrestled two years ago at 174, shows up at 285 vs WI. He gets beat and people wonder how fair that is to wrestle against a nationally ranked wrester. Then Patrick Rhoads’ dad arrives to remind us that Patrick filled in against Alex Dieringer and then got to start for 1 year and he wouldn’t trade it for anything. Missed in all of this is that Brantley was on the bench on full view of the video when Gilman stuck Lizack. Go back and watch the video, Faraan seems to be having the time of his life. I thought I’d miss Burak a lot more this season. When Stoll got hurt, well, I figured I could stop complaining about the lack of a redshirt and/or building a time machine. The board had a political argument. In which it was revealed, that like our nation, we do not all share identical ideology. I do think that regardless of political persuasion, we can all support “building a wall and having BWI pay for it”. I wish I could remember and acknowledge the author of that wonderful quote.
Feel free to add in your thoughts. While, I’m gone for a bit, but I’m not done, unless you guys take all my answers.
