CJ & Chuck Long are my all time favorite Iowa QBs. Brad Banks is right there. (I never saw Randy Duncan or Nile Kinnick play.)

Armstrong was out when the Bugeaters lost to Purdue @ Purdue so his record should be 5 W and 5 L. Armstong has not been sacked much this year. But Armstrong has tossed several INTs of late and forces a lot of bad passes, especially to Jordan Westerkamp. If Iowa can win the turnover battle, grind the ball down Nebby's throat to control the possesion time game and score 31 points (or more) Iowa should win. Nebby does not have the OL or running game to grind out a battle. Terrell Newby is not Ameer Abdullah. Armstrong is more of a hit and miss thrower but he will scramble. Making Armstrong throw on 3rd and long plays into Iowa's hopes of a turnover. Nebby's defense give up points. Hope Wadley is good to go because Iowa could have some big runs through Nebby's LBs corp.

May the force be with the Hawks!

This is one game (not that there hasn't been others) where we will miss Drew Ott. Pressuring Armstrong into making a bad throw earlier than he wants to, will be important.

This. I'm fine with the bend don't break, but Tommy tends to force throws much more often when under duress. In this instance, properly timed blitzes could yield interceptions, rather than sacks.

CJ is your classic "the sum of the stats are less than the overall value" type player. He certainly seems to know how to use his talents into a team win. Say a Ken Dorsey/MiamiFL or Craig Krentzel/OSU type in that respect. Certainly more gifted than those two, but equally adept at "winning game management".

Armstrong to me is a wonderfully talented guy who doesn't seem to know how to convert the talents he has into more team wins.

Containing Armstrong is more important than sacking him.
Debbie will score points.
We will have to score more and win the turnover battle.

Two important stats: Beathard only 3 interceptions to
Armstrongs's 12. Beathard has pass completion rate
of 61% to Armstrong's 54 %.

The big thing that is difficult to measure is the leadership
ability. Beathard is the undisputed Field General of the
Hawkeyes. His will to win is demonstrated in 11 wins.

This is all fine and good until you consider Iowa is much more balanced, especially in red zone scoring. Tommy may put some drives together, but we should slow down their run game. At that point all you have to do is sit back, "bend don't break," and let Tommy throw the game away. Which he will.

exactly. QB's throw a lot more when playing from behind. Break this game out however you want, it's going to be a great game, very competitive, IMO.

Pressuring Tommy is very important, but it can not be at the expense of constant blitzing....make him sit back, think, and see if he has the patience to pick us apart....throw in a few timely blitzes....the last thing we want to do is allow Tommy to react and be instinctive, he is very talented but just does not have the patience to sustain drives throughout the game......this is the perfect scenario for Iowa, we struggle more with NW type of offense (obviously not last 2 years but when they had QB like Persa) when they just pick us apart with short-intermediate passes and are patient....

Armstrong is at his best and an absolute gamer when he's in a frenetic, sandlot-style game with tons of stuff happening. The best way for you guys to beat him is to disguise some sneaky coverages moreso than to bring pressure - in fact I'd say he actually does very well, not quite thrives, but is more in his element in "hair on fire" moments. He's very much the opposite of Taylor Martinez in that regard - what's scary about Tommy is that he'll surprise you with a really awful play in the most unexpected, seemingly safe moments.

Beathard,...I love that name.

With TA, you get 'Good' Tommy, and 'Bad' Tommy,...sometimes even in the same play. If 'Good' Tommy can be playing most of the game, I like our chances a lot.

Beathard is most successful when Iowa's running game is effective, which I think will be an issue against the Huskers defensive front. We are finally relatively healthy at the first 2 defensive levels, for the first time since the BYU game, and also really starting to play better as a linebacker unit. Our weakness is, if we cant put pressure on the passer, you will see some breakdowns at the 3rd level in pass coverage.

Correction 12 wins and 0 losses...soon to be 13.
