Losing to a substandard team like Debbie would not only undermine the teams overall confidence, but puts them at 1-3 in BigTen play ...which, with how stacked the league is this year, is pretty much insurmountable if their goal is a conference championship. Also, a loss will require they pull off a significant road upset at some point to set things right in the NET Rankings.

Basically, regardless of team health and the quick back-to-back "road" games, a win is critical.

This year is sort of feeling like the football season... Beating teams we should with close losses to really good teams. (now that we know SDSU and DePaul are the real deal) Overall pretty good all considered, just hope to eek in to the dance.

It is a must win for NCAA tourney, unfortunately Fredrick sounds like he has major issues with that foot, probably down to 8 scholly players and Connor is still sick/hasn't practiced. UGH!!!!!!!!

If Iowa can somehow get out of Lincoln with a victory tomorrow night, Fran with earn his moniker of "White Magic". With so little players left to field a team to compete in the BIG this week he's going to earn every cent of his salary....

I prefer to go with these.......IHMO, a little more of this kind of "Fight for Iowa" sentiment would go a long ways to achieving what most posters/fans want.

I think this game is critical in that it is one of the few games that we need to have in the win column...that doesn't say if very well, but in terms of road wins this is a have to have...just for the total number in the win column at the end of the year......

It would almost be best to be playing at MSU being this shorthanded and lose...because that isn't a game we were counting on....that's if we were going to drop one due to a lack of depth.

IF....Connor can't play, we are in deep do do if we get any kind of foul trouble or somebody catches an elbow, or turns an ankle.......very precarious.

Need 60 out of Garza and Wieskamp, and I'm not joking....
Not even sure thats the answer. Garza has AVERAGED 39 points in Iowa's 2 conference losses....I know we're running out of bullets, but we need BE and Joe T, to pick up the slack.

Yep I agree but for any shot here possibly down to 7-8 guys on the road they have to score a LOT.

I'll show up to work naked if Iowa loses to Nebraska. I'm that confident Iowa will not lose to Nebraska.
Even though we're short-handed, I feel as though if we're mindful, we should be able to handle the ball well enough. We still have scoring in Weezy, Luka, and Connor(?) If we get good defense and production from Joe T. (who always brings it), Bakari, Ryan, and Cordell, then we should be OK IMHO. To get solid minutes from the bench would sure be a welcome sight though. I think we should get this one.
Careful! In case we were to lose this, some poster (not me) may demand a pic of you at work.

Vs a Meh Debbie team it should be enough too, they just got to find a way tomorrow some how some way.

Garza with a bucket at the buzzer for the win.

…… runs to midcourt and blows kisses to the crowd.

We’re always Nebber’s Super Bowl in all sports.

They’d be just fine going 1-11 every fball season as long as they beat the Hawkeyes.

They’re our in-conference Iowa St.
I know, playing there has been a house of horrors for us, not feeling great about this right now with CJ probably not playing and Connor sick....Ugh

I'll agree that the season is certainly not over after this game, with 80% of conf games still to be played.
That said we really need wins against some of the worst teams(including road wins). It's hard to imagine losing games like this and still making the tourney. Also hard to imagine starting 1-3 and then have MI/MD coming up for 2 of the next 3 games(even if they are home games).

Precisely my stance.

A loss wouldn't kill their chances for the tourney, but it would make it tougher.

We have our backs against the wall but if there was a group of guys that could overcome the circumstances it would be Garza & Company

With a loss at Nebraska tomorrow night we would be in 13th place in the B1G conference standings.

Not going to happen. Nebraska starts a 17 year old at center. Garza should get about whatever he wants. This team was pieced together by Hoiberg in a month.

Need to play them one at a time and go out and execute. If we take care of the ball and limit live ball turnovers (our transition defense was not good vs. PSU and that cost us), we should be fine even being short handed. Need to sub and use the media and our own timeouts more wisely to get Garza and Wieskamp rest.... they were spent in the sauna on Saturday.

Really hoping that Bakari has a nice homecoming in the vault and shoots well? Need him to bring production (especially if Connor and CJ are both out).

Possible Starting 5?
Garza
Kriener
Till
Wieskamp
Toussaint

bench:
Pemsl
Evelyn

It will all depend on fouls. We win if we don't have to sit down any of our starters during the game because of fouls.....:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Agreed.

"Must win" is just so over-used. The only way to know if something is a "must win" is to know the "...if you want to...". If the "...if you want to..." here is "make the NCAAs", then beating Nebraska is not a "must-win".

But it sure would help.

Obviously 16 more games to go after this one but if we lose we are sitting at 1-3. And before the season w/a healthy lineup this and maybe NW were probably considered the most sure road wins in the league. Sounds like CJ is probably out again, Conor is such a gamer I'm going to guess he's going to be a last minute decision. We can still win this game, but the margin for error is really really thin. Evelyn had his moment in the sun against Cincy, if no Conor tonight he's going to need to step up big again. With him and Joe T together that's not a great shooting backcourt but it is a good defensive backcourt. Puts a lot of pressure on 2 guys that have not really played much together. With an already thin lineup if you get to far down it certainly is not easy to get it back.
