A military plane carrying enough specialty infant formula for more than half a million baby bottles arrived Sunday in Indianapolis

Everyone with an IQ over 71:

The Trump Administration failed to heed GAO’s recommendation to develop a national coronavirus vaccine distribution plan “that focused on coordination and communication” and established “a time frame for documenting and sharing a national plan for distributing and administering COVID-19 vaccine.”

That's an awesome perspective. Another perspective is that states are best equipped to determine how vaccines should be distributed in their respective states. I'll bet the GAO didn't use that as a baseline assumption.

Trump fast tracked 3 vaccines.
This is such a dumb take. And even if he did do something no other president would have done as a matter of course (he didn't), his admin completely failed to develop a plan to distribute the vaccines they fast-tracked. You know - the part that gets vaccines in arms. The part that actualIy required that they do something.

If you want to give Trump credit for "fast-tracking" - you kind of have to fault him for that second part. Agreed?

Most things are beyond you. Trump fast tracked 3 vaccines. If your criticism is the vaccines don't work as advertised, that's not Trump's fault. Where do you think Trump got the information that he based his lies on?

On Feb. 29, Fauci gave an interview on the NBC morning talk show “Today,” during which he stated that at that moment in time, “the risk is still low, but this could change.”

“I’ve said that many times even on this program,” Fauci stated in that interview. “You’ve got to watch out because although the risk is low now, you don’t need to change anything you’re doing. When you start to see community spread, this could change and force you to become much more attentive to doing things that would protect you from spread.”
OHHHHHH...a brainwashed MAGA who blames Fauci. Got it now. You love your Fox News talking points. You think things are beyond me? You're in a cult, dude.

This administration should be ashamed of themselves for allowing this to even get to this point.

Yes, great job recognizing a shortage back in November that became a crisis in April and finding a solution in June. Just about right for you American hating but government loving types.
Haven't read this whole thread, but did any of you geniuses elaborate on how this was the government's fault, other than "because Biden"?

If you had read the whole thread you would know that this is Trump’s fault, because of Canadian tariffs and the COVID vaccine rollout.

Comical. The Biden administration was all talk about this and actually used the Trump roll out plan for quite a long time.

Speaking of comical…you’re the poster child. They used the Trump “plan” for “quite a while”. Fine…how long would that be and why do you think they might do that?
It was at 1 million shots a day when he was sworn in. Remember the gaffe when he announced the number of shots over a several month span that was also the 2 million shots per day. He was laughed at.

Most of the distribution was going to be left up to the States.

Why Indianapolis? They should be flying the formula to Mexico. We can’t disappoint the right wing media consumers.

In reality, they weren’t. It was not pretty.

Your Twitter echo chamber apparently didn’t inform you that Canada is also facing a shortage of specialty formula and their factories have been scrambling just to keep up with their own domestic demand.

Why? Because they normally get a lot of their formula from the United States, specifically the Abbott facility in Sturgis, MI.
Ain't it kewl how international trade agreements and tariffs skew the markets and supplies?

What point are you even trying to make here? You blamed Trump's restrictions on Canadian imports for the formula shortage. The problem with that accusation is that we haven't imported any significant amount of formula from Canada in decades. USMCA didn't change anything with regard to formula.

We don't buy formula from Canada. Canada buys it from us. And right now Canadians are pissed because a Chinese company built a formula factory in Ontario with $225 million in government assistance and is shipping all the formula it produces to China. They plan to eventually start selling it in Canada but haven't yet passed all the regulatory requirements to do so. Meanwhile, Canadian parents are having trouble finding formula, especially the brands designed for babies with allergies.

Your claim that Trump's tariffs and restrictions on Canadian formula imports caused or contributed to this crisis is a non-starter. Please get that through your thick skull.

Why should they have a 6 month supply? Do you know how much that would cost? How much warehouse space it would take? Would their distributors have to keep a six month supply too? What is the shelf life on baby formula? Expiration dates?
Well, I guess a 6 month supply doesn't seem so crazy right now. We have taken JIT pretty far, and even though it repeatedly bites us in the ass, as soon as each crisis is over, we go right back to JIT standards. Sure formula can sit in a proper environment. Companies just cannot maximize profits any holding a reserve.
We came out of a pandemic where people, not saying you necessarily, were all my body my choice, and I won't wear a mask. And many of those same people are now blaming the federal government for not running the baby formula industry. For not telling private companies what to do and when. I guess the next step is to have the federal government have reserves of toilet paper, formula, chicken wings... All held in strategic reserve.

No business in Canada will open up a competing formula factory when they must pay significant tariffs to send it to neighboring US customers.

Which is, in part, why no such factory exists; because of a "treaty" re-negotiation.

And Canada HAS had enough to serve it's own population. It has simply limited hoarding.

No one is blaming the federal government for "not running the baby formula industry". We're saying the government should have temporarily relaxed the labeling standards for European imports in March instead of waiting until last week to do it.

And all of this high-fiving by Democrats is a bit hollow. If the Biden administration had relaxed the standards two months ago instead of last week, Nestle could have shipped all this formula by conventional methods instead of us having to spend tens of millions of dollars flying military cargo jets around the world and then congratulating each other like it's the Berlin airlift or something.

They never were shipping any significant amount of formula to the United States, even before USMCA, you stupid fvcking idiot.

I thought we had reached the peak of weirdness when Rs started bitching that the government was buying enough socialist European product.
Are you still talking about infant formula here? Because that description is almost 100% inaccurate if you are.

Rs are basically complaining that Biden didn't buy all that socialist formula earlier. If you don't want to take responsibility for it then you shouldn't be saying it.

If a waiver could be made to bring in formula from Europe this week, the waiver could have happened 2 months ago.

and USMCA made that prospect even worse DESPITE them building a new plant in 2019.
Holy shit. It’s like you’re on a mission to prove just how stupid you can be.

The factory that was built in Ontario in 2019 is Chinese owned and isn’t even authorized to sell formula in Canada yet, let alone the United States. 100% of the formula manufactured in that facility has been shipped to China. It has exactly zero impact on the current shortage.

If you would get your information from someplace other than left-wing Twitter accounts you might not look like such a moron.

And, AGAIN: When CMDCAS adds tariffs to exports at an "export limit trigger point", BEYOND what that plant will export, who has any incentive to build another plant?

NO ONE.
