A North Liberty woman was charged last week with first-degree harassment after police say she threatened the principal of her daughter’s school.
Melody Peer, 41, went Sept. 13 to North Central Middle School in North Liberty and confronted staff about an issue between her daughter and another student. She started yelling and causing a scene and was escorted out by the principal, Colby Miller, according to a criminal complaint.
Peer continued to yell and began calling Miller racial names, then threatened to kill him, the court record stated. Police were called, but Peer left the school before they arrived.
The school went into safety protocols and Miller asked that charges be filed against Peer and that a trespass warning be issued for the school, the complaint states.
The charges were filed Sept. 13. On Sept. 18, Peer had her first appearance in court on the charge. She was released on her own recognizance and a no-contact order was filed on behalf of Miller.
