A winnable game goes down the drain

The kids tried, but they kept beating themselves. I'm glad McCabe is getting more minutes, but they need to set some screens and get her many more shots. Guyton looked better off the bench today, but she also needs to shoot more--from the outside, not off the dribble drive. Somebody needs to remind her she's 5-7.

Sadly, it appears Affolter and Feurerbach and Stuelke are not as good as they seemed with CC around last year. I like Heiden, but she's still very much a work in progress. Stremlow was impressive for the most part and probably was Iowa's best player today. Lucy Olsen has hit a wall. She's been pretty weak the last few games, and that's a big surprise. O'Grady does some good and some bad. All in all, Iowa just can't quite find the answers.

One of the first things Jan mentioned when she took the job was a desire to employ full court pressure. Until the final couple of minutes today, I hadn't seen it. Maybe that's one of the things Iowa can do--slap on the press here and there if matchups are favorable. And Jan should have tried it a lot sooner than she did today.

Anyway, this team has a lot of pieces, but right now they're like the jigsaw puzzle dumped out on the kitchen table. It's not obvious how they go together. I hope Jan can figure it out soon.

They were never ahead in this game. It never seemed winnable.

I can digest losses when we're obviously outmanned, but this constant low-IQ play and failure to address previous mistakes is ridiculous.
"We need to cut down on turnovers": we had 4 two minutes into the game.
"We need to start better": down 15 in the 2nd quarter.

Taylor McCabe is the only returning player who's really elevated her game. Her defense gets better by the game, and she's getting her shot off quicker than last year.

Anyone who's watched WBB the past few years knew we had to guard Parrish and Garzon. The players guarding them were often a poor match, which seems like a JJ problem.

If we want to play small we need to push the pace and use a motion offense; just seems like our approach doesn't fit our personnel.

They were within two points at least once, and they were within six or eight multiple times with multiple empty possessions. In addition, Indiana's personnel is about the same as Iowa's. And it was a home game. That's pretty much the definition of a "winnable" game that you don't win.

Anyone following past few years knew Garzon, Chloe MM and Parrish were strong returning starters and threats. Our defense particularly on Parrish and Garzon was tough…. We were somewhat in the game, but never good enough. A better start and perhaps winnable. But off track with TOs to start the game…. Need something that resembles more dependable offense. So hard for this team…

Why do people say this… No, they cannot digest any loss. If you are the kind of fan that is constantly questioning the coaches, then you are the kind of fan that can’t digest any loss. You are also on the sidelines in every sport at every level, questioning the coaches….

Here’s what I can’t handle, people pretending like they have some enlightened message. If you’re seeing it, the coaches saw it… They are trying to win, if you were coaching, there would be somebody like you on the board calling everything you do into question, and actually I hope most of you have somebody at work talking shit about you behind your back and that you will eventually lose your job as a result

Doh….

The problem is...Lucy Olson hasn't progressed her game forward. She's stuck and has hit her ceiling. Good player, but not good enough to carry the team like they need. And....she clearly lacks the killer instinct the team needs. Love her....but she doesn't have that missing "magic" the team is clearly missing.

So coaches don't make bad personnel decisions or poor coaching decisions? Hey Kirk, Brian is not qualified for the job. Hey Fran, your defense isn't working. Or Fran, maybe try the Murray brothers instead of your sons. Or hey Kirk, everyone can see Stanzi is better than Jake. Are these legitimate gripes or are fans coaching not qualified to make observations?

Of course they all suck at personnel decisions and it’s up to the brilliant message board fans to point it out. On like every message board in America ….😂

Hell I stumbled upon some South Carolina fans bitching who Dawn is or isn’t playing. I mean if her fans are calling her out, there isn’t much hope for you dopey Iowa “know it alls.”

Sometimes the coaching is so bad, you get bitches at for offering a scholarship to a player (Murray twins) and them fur nit playing them ….

Good stuff….message boards have given me a huge education on how poorly people process and regurgitate information.

Well there are levels to this. I wouldn't be critical of Dawn Staley after winning multiple national championships. But can't Iowa fans air their grievances a little after watching Fran roll his kids out on front of the Murray's? Or Kirk hiring his son to do a very poor job (on in which he was forced to let go or he's STILL be here)? And what's wrong with discussing this stuff on message boards? It's part of the fun of being a fan. I'll never understand why the Iowa media bashes Iowa fans so much for being a little critical especially considering our programs have been under the same leadership for decades.

No doubt, the amount of hyperbole, extremism and rampant labeling of people that make a comment that you don't agree with as a program hater. It is crazy what happens on these boards.

I'm glad to see all the bitching and moaning about the program because it shows we still care.
The next step is apathy, and that's absolutely fatal.
I hope someone in charge recognizes this before it's too late.
